Position Purpose
Teachers are the most important daily leaders and shapers of intellectual and ethical culture on our campus. Every teacher is a role model and must always act and speak as one. Successful Xavier teachers love order and are mindful that they are not merely educating minds but partnering with parents in the formation of student character. Just as we expect our students to pursue growth in virtue, the Xavier culture is one that anticipates the continual growth of the Xavier teacher in wisdom and virtue.
Essential Functions
- Create a classroom environment that will feel safe for all students to learn and reach their fullest potential.
- Create thoughtful and well planned lessons while adhering to the Xavier curriculum.
- Maintain an orderly classroom.
- Provide timely and meaningful evaluation/correction of student work.
- Engage students utilizing the Socratic method.
- Lead students through intelligence, charisma, curiosity, moral integrity, and example.
- He/she must fully embrace the school's vision of community, of learning, and of leadership.
- Perform additional assigned campus duties with a giving and joyful spirit.
- Reads, knows, and supports the philosophy, policies, procedures and other pertinent data of the school as published in the Teacher Handbook and most current Student Handbooks.
- Follow school policies and procedures, including the Xavier Charter School Safety Plan, for ensuring the safety and security of students on campus.
- Provides reasonable assistance to those students in need of individual help and assists students to make up work after approved absences.
- Communicates regularly and as needed with parents.
- Initiates parent-teacher conferences and responds to parental inquiries within 24 hours during the school week.
- Attend Open Houses, special school events (such as concerts, plays and special presentations) and certain staff meetings designated as All Faculty Meetings.
- Attend all scheduled in-service days and events
- Supports and enforces the school dress and behavior codes and makes reasonable efforts to promote the orderly behavior of all students in the school, on the grounds, and at off-campus school activities.
- Keeps accurate records and makes reports as required by the Administrative Team.
- Evaluate and document the student’s day-to-day work, prepare quarter/semester grade reports, and prepare and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
- Attend and participate in review meetings with an assigned Dean.
- Participate in faculty development on half days.
- Is an active member of the community of learners, and continues to pursue his or her own professional growth and development by taking graduate courses and/or attending seminars and workshops related to the profession.
- Pursues excellence in teaching and continues to develop his or her own knowledge of the great ideas and works of Western Civilization.
- Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures.
- Maintain positive supervision at all times while in the classroom and on campus.
- Partners with parents in students' education and ensures regular, timely, and clear communication with both students and parents.
- Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by Administrators and as designated by the Head of Schools.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the tried and true teaching methods and classical educational pedagogy.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain friendly working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications Profile
- Certification/License: Idaho Certification as an Elementary Teacher
Education
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience in an Elementary setting is preferred.
