Join our Maintenance Team in Yellowstone National Park!

 

Yellowstone National Park Lodges hires ~300 people to operate 2 lodges and 3 restaurants within the park during the winter from December 2023 to March 2024. Your work schedule is typically 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays). Time and a half is paid above 40 hours per week. Learn more about our Maintenance Team.

 

Candidates should have some sort of professional and/or educational training related to the position they are applying for. These positions are responsible for opening properties prior to guest arrival, maintenance and repair during the season and closing the properties at the end of the season.

 

  • Technical Maintenance positions include: Assistant Maintenance Managers, Mechanical (HVAC) Technicians, Fire Systems Technicians, Boiler Technicians, and Laundry Maintenance Technicians  ($19-$22/hour dependent on position)
  • Skilled Maintenance positions include: Carpenter, Painter, Plumber, Locksmith, Heavy Equipment (Class A CDL), General Maintenance and Electrician ($17-$27/hour dependent on position).

Assistant Maintenance Manager (positions filled)

  • Assist the Maintenance Manager with direct supervision and administration of all departmental employees.

General Maintenance Technician (Day and Night Shifts)

  • Provide general maintenance skills necessary for repair and maintenance of facility-related assets.

Painter 

  • Implement the planned and scheduled workload, material procurement, and equipment for interior and exterior paint/stain tasks as assigned.

Boiler Technician (positions filled)

  • Operate, maintain, and repair of all boilers and boiler-related systems.

Mechanical Technician (positions filled)

  • Possess a working knowledge of HVAC system, Direct Digital Controls or have the aptitude required to quickly gain an understanding of HVAC control systems and common HVAC repairs and maintenance. Be proficient in the operation and use of equipment and tools common to HVAC trades.

Plumber

  • Perform plumbing assessments, preventative maintenance, and the repair/replacement of new and/or existing plumbing systems.

Electrician

  • Coordinate the proper operation and maintenance of all assigned electrical systems on location.

Carpenter (positions filled)

  • Perform carpentry assessments, preventative maintenance, and repairs/replacements of new and/or existing building systems.

Locksmith (positions filled)

  • Maintain and repair location lock systems, including key and electronic systems.

Heavy Equipment Operator (positions filled)

  • The Heavy Equipment Operator provides equipment and assistance park-wide to facilitate opening, closing and general operation of facilities.  Some duties may include assisting with concrete and asphalt patching, heavy snow shoveling, snow pole placement, utility repairs and tree sawyer work.  Driving of large trucks, dump trucks, skid steers and other Heavy Equipment as needed.  A minimum age of 21, a clean driving record and Class A CDL are required for this position.

Fire Systems Technician (positions filled)

  • Complete all planned and scheduled Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler System work orders, ensuring quality of work, timeliness and cost-effectiveness. National Institute of Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Fire Alarm Technician Certification (Inspection &Testing of Fire Alarm Systems - Level II or higher) or equivalent factory training required.

Laundry Maintenance Technician (positions filled)

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial laundry equipment and the associated building mechanical and electrical systems.

Skills and Knowledge

 

Assistant Maintenance Manager

  • Must have general knowledge of all trades common to maintenance operations and be able to read,and interpret construction drawings and specifications and how they interface with building and fire/life safety codes. Must be able to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and how they interface with building and fire/life safety codes.
  • Must be proficient in verbal and written communication skills and supervising personnel and possess strong organizational skills as they relate to planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
  • Must be self-motivated, work independently or with limited supervision, and must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA General Industry (1910) and Construction (1926) safety and health standards.Must be proficient with Outlook, Word and Excel computer programs and a general knowledge of procurement and computerized maintenance programs.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a current, valid, driver’s license with a good driving record for the past 3 years.Within 90 days must attend and complete the Class III Asbestos abatement and removal training and certification program.

General Maintenance Technician

  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of applicable OSHA and NFPA safety regulations and requirements including the ability to recognize and correct unsafe work practices or equipment installations which do not meet code.
  • Must have the computers skills required to effectively communicate via email and to create and edit Word documents and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and permit-required spaces occasionally when required.

Painter

  • Must be proficient in the operations and use of all painting equipment common to the trade, including the proper care and maintenance of all tools.
  • Must be proficient in preparing surfaces for paint/stain to ensure maximum degree of durability and longevity.
  • Must have a working knowledge of various paint products and the proper use of them in different applications.

Boiler Technician

  • Must possess the analytical ability required to perform predictive, scheduled and emergency maintenance for all commercial boiler and boiler related systems.
  • Must have knowledge of all tools and materials required to efficients start up, maintain, repair and shut down commercial boiler equipment and related systems.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors and shading required for boiler water testing.
  • Must possess the interpersonal skills required to efficiently communicate at all levels (written and verbal).

Mechanical Technician

  • Must have the aptitude required to complete common HVAC repairs and maintenance and be  proficient in the operation and use of equipment and tools common to the HVAC trades.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of HVAC system Direct Digital Controls; or have the aptitude required to quickly gain an understanding of HVAC control systems.
  • Must possess personal computer skills sufficient to efficiently work with the Microsoft Office software suite and the ability to quickly gain proficiency in company-specific software.
  • Must have a general knowledge of OSHA requirements and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Must be capable of and willing to advance his or her HVAC knowledge and expertise through on-the-job training and self-study. 

Plumber

  • Must be proficient in the operations and use of all plumbing equipment common to the trade.
  • Must be proficient in soldering, acetylene and arc welding.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of all plumbing codes and standards.

Electrician

  • Must have working knowledge of the NEC (National Electrical Code) NEMA National Electrical Manufacturers Association) rating system and OSHA.
  • Must possess the analytical ability required to perform predictive, scheduled and emergency maintenance for all electrical systems.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of materials and equipment to the trade and the use of test equipment.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently with limited supervision and must possess interpersonal skills required to efficiently communicate (verbal and written) at all levels.

Carpenter

  • Must have knowledge and proper application of various grades and types of wood and other building materials.
  • Must be proficient in the proper use of tolls common to the carpentry trade, including power tools.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of all building codes and standards.

Locksmith

  • Must possess basic building system knowledge and be able to install, troubleshoot and repair locking systems.
  • Must be skilled in the use of tools common to the locksmith trade.
  • Must possess the interpersonal skills required to communicate efficiently (verbal and written) and possess basic personal computer skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently with limited supervision.

Heavy Equipment Operator (Class A CDL Required)

  • Must be proficient in the safety and use of loaders (skid steer, backhoe), dump trucks, snow blowers and other equipment common to the trade.
  • Must be proficient in the safety and use of chainsaws, hand saws, wedges, block and tackle and other tree falling equipment common to the trade.
  • General knowledge of log work (bumper logs), domestic utility repair work (water, sewer, electrical), concrete and asphalt; painting and staining.

Fire Systems Technician

  • Must have a good working knowledge of general repair and maintenance operations and communicate efficiently.
  • This position requires a DOT physical.

Laundry Maintenance Technician

  • Must have the mechanical and electrical aptitude required to complete common maintenance and repair tasks and be proficient in the operation and use of common mechanical and electrical tools.
  • Must have a general knowledge of OSHA requirements and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, in areas with hot temperatures (80 to 120 degrees) and work in a noisy environment and be willing to wear hearing protection.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors required for boiler water testing.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights of up to 10 feet off the ground and lifting object weighing up to 50 pounds.

All Positions

  • Positions require that a candidate is at least 19 or 21 years of age (based on position)
  • Lifting 50 pounds at 5,000 feet above sea level.
  • Some positions require DOT Physicals
  • Some positions require a Class A CDL
  • Most positions require Respiratory protection

Physical Requirements

  •  Most positions require the use of respiratory protection and compliance with the applicable respiratory protection program regulations to include restrictions on the length and location of facial hair.
  • Some positions work in confined spaces and permit-required confined spaces may occasionally be required.
  • Must be able to walk up to a half mile over uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, stand, bend, kneel and crawl in all types of weather conditions at elevations exceeding 8,300 ft.
  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess physical stamina and condition to perform heavy labor in an outside environment
  • Positions require a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
