The Oasis at Death Valley is situated in a lush, spring-fed desert oasis, surrounded by the vast and arid desert of Death Valley National Park. The Oasis operates the historic AAA Four Diamond Inn and Ranch, restaurants, gift shops, and the world's lowest elevation golf course. Both hotels are open year-round and feature swimming pools fed by naturally warm local springs.

 

We’re hiring a Facilities Maintenance Manager to Live. Work. Explore. in Death Valley National Park!

 

Job Summary:
Join The Oasis at Death Valley as our Maintenance Manager and lead a skilled team in ensuring the highest standards of facility operations at our renowned resort. You'll oversee daily maintenance, prioritize guest room readiness, and coordinate safety and sustainability initiatives in partnership with Risk Management and our Director of Sustainability. Ideal candidates will have a strong hotel maintenance background, proven leadership skills, and a commitment to exceptional guest service and environmental stewardship. The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Pay: $25.55-$32.67/hr
Schedule: Typical schedule is 45 hours, 5 days per week (will include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

  • Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Manage the facilities crafts trades personnel in the day-to-day operations of the Engineering maintenance program.
  • Ensure that work orders are being properly assigned and completed in a timely manner, and work order paperwork is properly completed.
  • Ensure that work orders involving revenue rooms are given first priority to keep Not For Sale (NFS) time and guest inconvenience to a minimum. Conduct continual follow-up on work orders to ensure completion and quality standards are maintained.
  • Coordinate with Risk Management on assignment, follow-up, and completion of noted life safety work orders.
  • Provide technical assistance to the crafts personnel as necessary.
  • Schedule crafts personnel according to labor budget, ensuring that weekend coverage is available.
  • Interview and select facilities crafts personnel from applications provided by Human Resources.
  • Approve all promotions of craft personnel to higher grade.
  • Complete annual reviews for all assigned personnel and submit them to Assistant Director of Engineering - FM for approval.
  • Communicate status of work orders to department directors as requested by the department.
  • Work closely with Risk Management and the Engineering Trainer, providing risk management and safety training programs for staff.
  • Work with the Director of Sustainability to provide sustainability training programs for staff.
  • Communicate with Parts Clerk on parts availability, inventory, and ordering.
  • Ensure that assigned vehicles are taken in for preventive maintenance and scheduled services.
  • Ensure that Preventative Maintenance Schedules are being followed for all designated equipment.
  • Ensure that self and staff follow all prescribed Company, NPS, Federal and California statutory/regulatory policies and procedures regarding worker safety, risk management, environmental policies, HAZMAT, HAZCOM, confined space, lockout-tagout and vehicle operation.
  • Follow all prescribed Company environmental policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with Trainer to ensure all training needs for staff are met in a timely manner.
  • Assist with all timekeeping, scheduling, and meal break compliance in accordance with Xanterra policies and California labor laws.
  • Must be able to demonstrate professional and courteous behavior with all guests and employees.
  • Work hours, shifts, overtime, and on-call shifts as required.
  • Ensure the pool and spa are maintained according to county health code standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all employees are aware of the “Our Softer Footprint” Policy, Xanterra’s company-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) and their roles and responsibilities in achieving conformance to the policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Five years minimum supervisory or foreman experience in building construction, construction maintenance or maintenance engineering type operation.
  • Journeyman certification in boiler technician or refrigeration/HVAC and one of the following trades: electrician, plumber, carpenter.
  • Minimum of 8 years documented experience with complete knowledge and ability to perform all the following tasks of this craft.
  •  Possess good verbal communication skills with ability to give instructions clearly.
  • Experience with technology/computers and computer software programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, and various engineering programs.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprint and schematic drawings.
  • Familiarity with the International Building Codes and Uniform Building Codes.
  • Experience in writing staff schedules for a seven day a week operation.
  • Must possess physical ability and agility to ascend/descend ladders and scaffolding, enter confined spaces, and tour construction areas.
  • Possess or obtain a valid California Driver’s License within 90 days of start date and comply with the Oasis at Death Valley Vehicle Policy.
  • Ability to work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries.
  • Ability to work safely to ensure company equipment is secure.

 

Physical Requirements include:

  • Constantly listening, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, using eye/hand coordination, handling, wrist motion.
  • Frequently walk and lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally sit, handle, reach outward, reach above shoulder, squat, or kneel, lift/carry and push or pull up to 100lbs.
  • Will be required to stand long periods of time and to occasionally walk up flights of stairs.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis is required.
  • A full range of physical motion is required to operate manual and electrically powered tools.
  • Ability to climb and work from a ladder up to 40-feet from ground level.
  • Ability to enter and work in all confined areas, crawl spaces, attics, and manholes.
  • Ability to tolerate prolonged periods of standing, stooping, and bending daily.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments within extreme temperatures, noise, and dust.
  • Wear protective equipment as required by the job duties.
