What are the responsibilities and job description for the Embedded Hardware Engineering Co-Op position at X-ES Board?
Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) is seeking Embedded Hardware Engineering Co-Op’s to assist with various aspects of hardware design and production support. Gain hands-on experience working with advanced technologies from Intel, AMD, and other embedded suppliers. Depending on your assigned team, responsibilities may include one or more of the following: board-level design, HDL development, signal integrity simulations and design for high-speed signals, schematic capture, power supply design and testing, troubleshooting, debug, engineering bring-up, and/or manufacturing support.
All Co-Op positions are full-time and in-person at our Verona, WI facility for the Spring/Summer 2027 Co-Op term (January–August 2027) or a Summer/Fall 2027 Co-Op term (May – December 2027). This opportunity typically requires students to take a semester away from school to accommodate the full-time schedule.
X-ES hires multiple co-ops each term, with each student being assigned to one engineering team based on business needs, experience, and interests. Candidates will be considered for all positions. Candidates are welcome to include a desired focus area in their cover letter or resume if one is known.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Schematic capture, component investigations, DC/DC power design
- New product bring-up support, power supply verification
- Design, build, simulate and maintain FPGA projects
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electronic assemblies and single board computers down to the component level
- Perform simulations of high-speed interfaces such as memory and PCIe, interpret S-Parameter charts, perform waveform capture, and optimize via impedance using a 3D Full-Wave Solver
Required Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Familiarity with some of the following: embedded systems, C or Python programming, printed circuit boards, digital logic, transmission line theory, numerical analysis, and electrical schematics is beneficial
- Hands-on approach to Engineering, including a strong desire to learn new skills in design, testing, and production support environments.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and capable of working with small, dedicated engineering teams.
- Attention to detail and ability to communicate with software and embedded design engineers
- Interested in developing leadership skills and practicing these in a professional environment
