The mission of Wytheville Community College is dedicated to facilitating student success and fostering excellence through teaching while providing personal development, lifelong career growth, community leadership, economic advancement, and cultural enrichment for the citizens of the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, and Wythe and the city of Galax. The Middle School Outreach Coordinator assists middle school students with reaching their educational and career goals by (a) providing curriculum-approved workshops in school and virtually; and (b) developing and assisting in implementing out-of-school activities that enhance their understanding of different professional fields. In addition, the position includes recruiting participants for project services and maintaining participant files on services provided.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or higher education;
Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
Ability to work with low-income potential first-generation college students;
Professional/personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to the ones confronting project participants;
Professional experience in pre-college programs or similar programs;
Knowledge and/or advocacy experience with disadvantaged communities; and
Able to work independently with target school contacts and community.
