PERSONNEL VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
BUS DRIVERS
Title: Bus Driver
Primary Function:
To safely transport passengers between assigned stops and schools, according to specified routes and time schedules. Maintains orders between trips and adheres to safety rules when loading and unloading passengers.
Qualifications:
- Is at least 21 years of age and possesses a high school diploma or GED certificate or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Possesses a valid Virginia Commercial Driver’s License with School Bus and Passenger Bus endorsement.
- Meets requirements of an annual physical examination.
- Meets all other requirements of the State Board of Education for persons employed to drive a school bus.
- Submit periodically to drug testing.
Reports to: Principal of Assigned School and Supervisor of Facilities and Transportation
Performance Responsibilities:
- Performs pre-trip inspection of the school bus; reports operating and equipment deficiencies.
- Cleans bus interior and exterior.
- Fuels bus as necessary.
- Adheres to all traffic laws and observes mandatory safety regulations for school bus drivers.
- Picks up and delivers students to and from schools.
- Transports only authorized personnel.
- Reports all accidents and completes appropriate reports.
- Runs periodic emergency bus evacuation drills.
- Transports students to special events and field trips.
- Records mileage; maintains records and prepares reports as necessary.
- Maintains discipline on the bus and makes reports as necessary.
- Makes his/her bus available for scheduled maintenance and/or repairs.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Terms of Employment: 180-day contract. Salary is established by the School Board
Evaluation: Performance on this job is evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for classified personnel.
