Lower School Nurse
Wyoming Seminary Lower School is in search of a Lower School Nurse to begin as soon as possible. The primary function of the Lower School Nurse is to promote health and safety on the Wyoming Seminary Lower School and Early Childhood campuses. The nurse provides health services to students, faculty, and staff within the scope of practice, coordinating care with athletic trainers, the local public health department, and medical providers. This role is a twelve-month, full-time position and is responsible for communication with parents, faculty, administration, and staff in order to provide a safe and healthy academic environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- On campus first responder for all medical emergencies, including initiating 911 and maintaining CPR and basic life support until the local Paramedic Unit arrives.
- Provide daily medical assessment and care of students in grades Toddler through 8.
- Maintain electronic records through Magnus Health Tracker - electronic management of all health and immunization records.
- Assist students with education and management of chronic medical conditions, i.e., asthma, allergies, diabetes, etc.
- Maintain PA state immunization records annually for each student.
- Communicate with local and state public health departments to prevent or control communicable diseases.
- Communication via telephone or email with parents regarding all illness and injury, and advising parents on return to school and/or activity protocols.
- Administer prescription and OTC medication as necessary.
- Maintain emergency supplies including PPE, OTC medications, AED replacement parts, medical office supplies, and sanitation products.
- AED maintenance checks monthly with replacement of batteries and electrodes as needed.
Qualifications/Skills
- Current Pennsylvania RN license - BSN preferred.
- Able to obtain all PA-required clearances for work in a school setting and have a valid PA driver's license.
- 5 years of medical surgical, public health, or pediatric experience preferred.
- Current Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/Basic Life Support certification.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to be flexible and adapt to the changing demands of a school population.
- Proficient verbal and writing skills to facilitate communication with parents.
