What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal and Shelter Caretaker position at Wyoming County SPCA?
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, this is a part time 6-12 hour position that is responsible for performing animal shelter functions related to animal care/health, assisting in animal adoptions, cleaning, veterinary runs, along with record keeping for the Wyoming County SPCA. Being available to work Sundays is a must for this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cleaning cages
- Feeding animals
- Giving medications as needed
- Training, walking, and socialization of shelter dogs
- Socialization, interaction and care of shelter cats
- Training Volunteers
- Handling dishes, laundry, sweeping, mopping, etc.
- General shelter maintenance such as shoveling snow, salting, taking garbage to dumpster, etc.
- Following safety protocols, as set by Shelter Manager
Qualifications for the job:
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: Prior experience working with animals is preferred, but not required.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Required lifting, standing, bending and climbing stairs.
- Communication and customer service: Able to interact effectively with other shelter staff and the general public on behalf of the SPCA.
- MUST be available Sundays!
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $15.50 per hour
Expected hours: 6 – 12 per week
