House Manager/Assistant and Childcare Provider for Teens at Conley-Stallworth Family
We're a busy, professional family in Washington DC looking for an exceptional House Manager / Family Operations Partner - not just an errand-runner, but a true operating partner for the household. Both parents carry demanding careers, and we have two teenage daughters with active athletic (volleyball and basketball), academic, and social lives. This role is for someone who treats our household like a well-run small business: anticipates what's needed before being asked, builds systems rather than just completing tasks, and is comfortable being the connective tissue across kids' schedules, home logistics, and family projects. You should be as comfortable coordinating a basketball tournament travel schedule as you are managing a contractor timeline or helping proof a pitch deck. Key Responsibilities Kids' Logistics & Activities - Manage day-to-day schedules for two teenage daughters - competitive basketball (including tournament travel logistics), plus school, tutoring, and social commitments. - Handle all pick-up and drop-off coordination, including building contingency plans for schedule conflicts and last-minute changes. - Serve as a steady, credible adult presence the girls respect - comfortable setting expectations with teenagers, not just chauffeuring them. Household & Home Projects - Own meal planning, grocery ordering/shopping, and food prep for a busy family - healthy, efficient, and responsive to changing schedules. - Manage laundry, dry cleaning and general household upkeep to a consistently high standard. - Source, schedule, and supervise vendors and contractors for home projects (repairs, renovations, seasonal maintenance), managing timelines and quality without close oversight. - Maintain household systems: inventory of supplies, calendars, recurring maintenance schedules, and a running list of what's next. - Run home projects with real project-management discipline - scope, timeline, budget tracking, and status updates - rather than ad hoc follow-up. Appointments & Family Administration - Coordinate medical, dental, and other appointments for all family members, including insurance and paperwork follow-through. - Manage the family's shared calendar end-to-end, proactively flagging conflicts and building in travel/buffer time. - Support planning for family travel (the family enjoys international trips together) - itinerary research, logistics, packing lists, and day-of coordination. Personal & Professional Projects - Provide general executive-assistant-style support for personal and professional initiatives - correspondence, research, scheduling, and light project management. - Bring genuine creative and strategic input - someone who suggests better ways to do things, not just someone who waits for instructions. - Apply light project-management rigor across multi-step efforts (home renovations, family travel) - clear task breakdowns, owners, deadlines, and proactive status reporting. Required Qualities & Experience - Self-starter who takes ownership end-to-end with minimal supervision - identifies what needs to happen and does it. - Anticipatory: consistently looks around corners, spots problems before they happen, and plans two steps ahead. - Quick study who can absorb new systems, tools, and family preferences fast and adapt without hand-holding. - Comfortable and effective with teenagers - warm but appropriately assertive; can hold boundaries with good humor. - Highly organized with excellent follow-through; nothing falls through the cracks. - Confident, direct communicator who will push back, flag risks, or offer a better idea rather than simply executing instructions. - Trustworthy and discreet - will be entrusted with sensitive family, financial, and professional information. - Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable vehicle. - Flexible availability, including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends around sports/travel schedules. - Comfortable passing a background check. Preferred Qualifications - Prior experience as a teacher, tutor, coach, or in another role working closely with adolescents. - Prior experience as a house manager, nanny/household manager, or executive assistant in a fast-paced household or family office. - Familiarity with youth club sports logistics (tournament travel, team apps/communication tools). - Basic proficiency with productivity and organization tools (shared calendars, task/project management apps, online grocery/ordering platforms). - A valid food handler's understanding of basic nutrition/meal planning for active teenagers. What We Offer - Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience (details shared upon application). - A genuine partnership role with real autonomy and influence over how the household runs - not a rigid task list. - A respectful, professional working relationship with a family that values initiative and directness.
