Primary Purpose:

Under the direction and supervision of the lead electrician, provide general support to the electrical team. Assist electricians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Supports in troubleshooting electrical issues and assisting in repairs under supervision.

Qualifications:

Education:

Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

General knowledge of electrical systems is preferred

Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

Computer proficiency preferred

Experience:

One year of electrical or general maintenance experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintenance and Repair

  • Install, repair, and replace lighting, outlets, and branch circuits.
  • Troubleshoot low-voltage systems, fire alarms, and security systems.
  • Assist with the installation and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Assist with the installation and repair control and distribution apparatus, relays, switches, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
  • Assist with installation and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Assist with diagnosing and resolving problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
  • Assist with testing circuit continuity to ensure the compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
  • Measure, cut, bend, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, and conduit bender.
  • Assist with receiving and completing work orders.
  • Assist with the selection of materials and hardware, and make time and material estimates.
  • Assist with the maintenance of accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Assist with the inspection of jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Assist with the detection of needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Transport and maintain equipment, along with the ability to pull a trailer.

Safety

  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) daily

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel
