REPORTS TO: Principal  

DEPARTMENT: Secondary Schools

 

Hours / Work Times 

 

7 Hours Per Day (9:05 a.m. - 4:35 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch)

 

190 days per year (180 student days / 10 holidays)

 

Bilingual - Spanish Speaking Required

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit towards salary step placement.

 

Evergreen Public Schools (EPS) offers the following to eligible employees who work at least 630 hours in a school year:

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The bilingual student and parent support assistant will act as a connector and facilitator to support academic success and build positive home-school relationships. These responsibilities will fall under the supervision of the building principal.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Communicate effectively with the staff and general public in person, by telephone, via e-mail and in writing.
  2. Participate in student support meetings and facilitate two-way communication during the meeting, as well as follow-up.
  3. Assist with interpreting in parent conferences, when needed.
  4. Assist with translating school specific documents, as needed.
  5. Participate in, and collaborate with, parent engagement planning committees to represent perspectives, requests and needs of bilingual families.
  6. Monitor and respond to messages on the phone message line, as needed, to support timely and responsive communication to bilingual families.
  7. Encourage parent volunteerism in schools.
  8. When needed, educate parents about available community resources.
  9. Record and compile data, as needed, to demonstrate progress toward individual student and school goals.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  2. Attend meetings and trainings throughout the school year.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:

Computer, typewriter, telephone, copy machines, and all other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions as listed above.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Specialty language basic skills test required)

  1. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.
  2. Demonstrated proficiency in preferred language as evidenced by an oral and written evaluation in the preferred language.
  3. Ability to proficiently translate written documents from English into preferred language and preferred language into English.
  4. Previous experience working with bilingual individuals.
  5. Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative and cooperativeness.
  6. Knowledge of, and experience working with community resources or programs that support bilingual families.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work productively without immediate supervision.
  8. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
  9. Relates well with bilingual students and parents.
  10. Will need to pass written translation test.
