Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is seeking a Division Chief, Infectious Disease to join its team and serve a diverse patient population. Division Chief, Infectious Disease is a senior physician leadership role responsible for overseeing an Infectious Disease division within a hospital. The ideal candidate will impact patient care both directly and indirectly by shaping how infectious diseases are diagnosed, treated, prevented, and managed across an organization. There will be some teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students.

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center is a 220-bed teaching hospital located in a residential neighborhood directly on the border of northern Brooklyn and Western Queens. The Division Chief of Infectious Diseases provides strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for the Infectious Diseases Division. The Chief is responsible for advancing excellence in patient care, research, education, quality improvement, and program growth while fostering collaboration across the healthcare system. This role oversees infectious disease physicians, advanced practice providers, fellows, and support staff and serves as the organizational leader for infectious disease management, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection prevention initiatives.

Responsibilities:

 Clinical Leadership

  • Direct and oversee the delivery of high-quality infectious disease services.
  • Establish and maintain evidence-based clinical standards and protocols.
  • Provide expert consultation for complex infectious disease cases.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Support expansion of inpatient and outpatient infectious disease programs.

Strategic and Administrative Leadership

  • Develop and implement the division's strategic vision and goals.
  • Manage divisional operations, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, quality metrics, and patient satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and institutional requirements.
  • Represent the division in hospital committees and executive leadership meetings.

Quality and Patient Safety

  • Lead initiatives to improve patient safety and clinical quality.
  • Oversee antimicrobial stewardship programs.
  • Partner with infection prevention teams to reduce healthcare-associated infections.
  • Develop response plans for outbreaks and emerging infectious disease threats.
  • Promote evidence-based practices across the organization.
  • Faculty and Talent Management
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing physicians and staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and professional development planning.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support physician engagement and workforce planning efforts.
  • Academic and Research Leadership
  • Promote clinical, translational, and population health research.
  • Support grant funding and scholarly activities.
  • Advance educational programs for medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Encourage publication, presentations, and participation in professional societies.
  • Maintain an environment that supports innovation and discovery.
  • Community and Public Health Engagement
  • Collaborate with public health agencies and community organizations.
  • Participate in regional preparedness and emergency response initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert during public health emergencies and disease outbreaks.
  • Support community education and outreach efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or foreign equivalent
  • Completion of a U.S.-accredited residency program in Internal Medicine
  • Fellowship training in Infectious Disease from an accredited institution
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in Infectious Disease
  • Minimum 7–10 years of clinical experience in Infectious Diseases.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic medical center, healthcare system, or large physician practice.
  • Must possess a current, unrestricted New York State license.
  • Must possess active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration or be eligible for registration.
  • Must possess active Medicare/Medicaid Enrollment or be eligible to enroll.
  • BLS or ACLS required.
  • Must possess strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Comfortable with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and Microsoft Office
  • Clinical proficiency in evidence-based medicine
  • Record of excellence in clinical care, teaching, and/or research.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Experience leading antimicrobial stewardship or infection prevention programs.
  • Successful track record of research funding and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience managing budgets, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Advanced leadership training (MBA, MPH, MHA, or similar degree preferred).
  • Established leadership skills.

This is a Monday–Friday position with a shared call rotation that promotes work-life balance. Base compensation ranges from $280,000 to $325,000, exclusive of performance bonuses, incentive compensation, and benefits.
