Estimating Manager
Reports to: Director of Technical Services
Location: Greer, SC
Travel: 15-25%
Position Summary
The Estimating Manager oversees the development of competitive Lump Sum, Fixed Fee, and Time & Material cost estimates to support business development and regional growth objectives. This role leads the estimating team, establishes estimating strategies, and ensures all estimates align with customer specifications, contractual requirements, Wyatt standards, and industry best practices. The position is responsible for pricing accuracy, bid strategy, estimator development, and continuous improvement of estimating systems and processes. The Estimating Manager plays a key role in influencing profitability, risk management, and successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all estimating functions to produce accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates.
- Review and approve final estimate packages prior to formal quotation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and alignment with scope.
- Develop bid strategies and recommend project pursuit decisions consistent with regional profit and growth objectives.
- Supervise, train, and mentor estimators; assign work based on expertise and development needs.
- Incorporate safety, environmental responsibility, and contractual compliance into all estimating activities.
- Maintain and improve estimating guidelines, templates, pricing feedback systems, and historical cost data.
- Collaborate with purchasing, project management, and vendors to obtain pricing feedback and improve estimate accuracy.
- Support proposal development, contract negotiations, change order pricing, and client presentations.
- Monitor financial performance of awarded projects to validate estimate accuracy and incorporate lessons learned.
- Travel as required to support bid reviews, client meetings, and regional operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- Equivalent combination of technical training and related experience will be considered
- Professional certifications related to estimating or construction management
- Minimum 10 years of construction estimating or construction management experience
- Experience in industrial and power construction environments required
- Prior experience leading or supervising estimating teams
- Experience with Lump Sum, Fixed Feed, and Time & Material contract structure required
- Valid state-issued driver's license
Skills & Technical Requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and industry estimating/scheduling tools
- Advanced knowledge of construction estimating strategies, labor analysis, and cost modeling required
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, specifications, and scope development
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls
- Ability to analyze historical data and market trends to improve forecasting accuracy
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills
- Effective negotiation and communication skills with clients and vendors
- Ability to make sound decisions under deadline pressure
