POSITION: PROJECT MANAGER – UNDERGROUND
LOCATION: UTAH, BASED ON PROJECT SITE
BASE: $100,000 - $140,000 (Industry Leading Total Compensation Package)
JOB SUMMARY
The Project Manager in the Underground area will lead the planning, execution, and closeout of large water and wastewater infrastructure projects ranging from $5M-$100M. This often includes water transmission pipelines 36 inches in diameter and larger, with a primary focus on welded steel pipe and HDPE installations. These projects typically include; deep excavations utilizing specialized shoring systems, managing ground water, bypass pumping, rock excavation, tunneling, concrete structures, mechanical piping, water or wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and working in tough terrain or congested work areas. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of project delivery including schedule, budget, quality, safety, and stakeholder coordination. Reporting to the Area Manager, the Project Manager will oversee project teams and serve as the primary point of contact with owners, engineers, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead underground water pipeline projects from mobilization through closeout, ensuring safe execution, schedule performance, quality standards, and cost control on large diameter steel and HDPE installations.
- Develop and maintain project schedules in Primavera P6, coordinating sequencing and long lead procurement to support field operations and avoid delays.
- Own project financials, including budget development, monthly cost forecasting, production tracking, and regular reporting to the Area Manager and Division Manager.
- Manage subcontractor agreements, coordination, quantities, and progress payments, ensuring scope alignment and on site performance standards are met.
- Coordinate pipe procurement, material deliveries, welding operations, and specialty activities such as HDPE fusion, hydrostatic testing, and cathodic protection installation.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, engineers, utility agencies, and inspectors, serving as the company's primary project contact.
- Oversee contract administration including change order identification, documentation, pricing, and timely resolution of scope and cost impacts.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents, ensuring field teams have clear direction on installation requirements and tolerances.
- Champion WW Clyde's safety culture on site, ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements including OSHA and confined space protocols.
- Lead project team development by mentoring Project Engineers and Field Engineers, setting expectations, and supporting their growth through hands on coaching.
- Ensure quality control standards are met across all pipeline work, coordinating with QC staff on weld inspection, compaction testing, pressure testing, and as built documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent underground construction experience will be considered.
- 5 years of construction project management experience, with direct, on site leadership of large diameter water pipeline projects.
- CMAR/CMGC (Alternative Procurement) experinece is preferred.
- Proven field experience with welded steel pipe and HDPE pipe installations, including knowledge of fusion methods, joint testing, bedding and backfill requirements, and large diameter pipe handling.
- Proficiency with construction management software, including Primavera P6, HeavyBid, HeavyJob, and Viewpoint.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to develop budgets, manage cost to complete forecasting, and identify production or cost trends early.
- Solid understanding of underground utility construction methods, shoring and dewatering systems, and pipeline testing and commissioning processes.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate across owners, subcontractors, engineers, and field teams.
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites across the region. Must maintain an insurable driving record.
