Below, you’ll find other important information about this position. Responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating services and activities associated with the Stroke Department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Current licensure in ONE of the following: Licensed Speech Language Pathologist through the West Virginia Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology Occupational Therapist through the West Virginia Board of Occupational Therapy Physical Therapist through the West Virginia Board of Physical Therapists Current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Licensed Practical Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). 2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification due within 30 days of hire EXPERIENCE: 1. One (1) year of experience in a neurology related position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Bachelor’s degree in science or healthcare. 2. Current Certification in a healthcare specialty including Emergency Medical Services. EXPERIENCE: 1. Three (3) years of experience in a neurology related position. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Coordinates the facility stroke program. 2. Utilizes and manages Stroke Champions on every unit related to stroke care. 3. Serves as a resource to the hospital for care of the stroke patient regardless of admitting diagnosis of the patient. 4. Facilitates community outreach activities related to Stroke awareness and education. 5. Completes on-going staff educational opportunities for all levels and departments interacting with the stroke population. 6. Collects and analyses on-going data regarding outcomes of the stroke program. 7. Analyzes data, prepares reports, and provides statistical information for Stroke Performance Improvement reviews. 8. Submits required data to the joint commission and other regulatory agencies as requested. 9. Evaluates effectiveness of patient teaching with post discharge follow up phone calls. 10. Collaborates with the neurology team and emergency department to improve performance. 11. Accountable for serving as an essential member of the department and multidisciplinary team to ensure quality cost-effective outcomes for our patients. 12. Responds to stroke alerts when available during regular working hours. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The national Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient’s profile and appropriate algorithms. 2. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40 lbs. 3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
