Acting under the direction and supervision of Assistant Vice President & Senior Clinical Operations Counsel, provides general paralegal functions in support of developing, organizing, and maintaining all policies and procedures, as well as in support of the general legal needs of the West Virginia United Health System Legal Department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Bachelor’s Degree OR High school Diploma AND Four (4) years of high level administrative experience in a law firm or immigration group. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Paralegal certificate from an accredited organization. EXPERIENCE: 1. Three (3) Years’ experience related to the preparation, organization, and review of policies and procedures. 2. Three (3) Years’ experience with healthcare related laws and regulations such as Stark, fraud and abuse and similar laws. 3. Three (3) Years’ experience in a private law firm, governmental agency legal department, or in house legal department. Assists the AVP in reviewing and drafting WVUHS policies and procedures to comply with relevant government rules and regulations. 2. Reviews and summarizes supporting documentation for policies and procedures. 3. Drafts correspondences and assists as appropriate with the development of policies and procedures. 4. Organizes and maintains policies and procedures in compliance with federal regulations. 5. Aids in the implementation of policy management strategy and monitoring timing requirements for updates. 6. Performs basic legal and regulatory research relative to healthcare policies and any developments and changes. 7. Gathers materials from administrators and/or clinical departments in preparation for amendments. 8. Communicates effectively with physicians, clinical departments, Human Resources, and Administration regarding policies and procedures as necessary. 9. Utilizes Microsoft Office, other computer software, and internet resources as needed in support of the team’s objectives. 10. Prepares legal documents and communicates with internal and external contacts. 11. Assists in populating and maintaining the Legal Department’s document management system. 12. Supports the WVUHS Legal Services Department in all matters and provides support to other counsel and staff within the Department as needed. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Proficiency in reading and writing immigration petitions and supporting documentation. Additional Job Description: This position will provide support to ensure standardization and consistency of forms used in the provision of care and services at the direction and in consultation with attorneys on the Legal Services team for regulatory and legal compliance.
