Performs color doppler vascular exams as well as abdominal, OB/GYN, and small parts exams. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. This is inclusive of departmental, surgery, Cath Lab and portable exams.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- One (1) specialty certification through ARDMS:
- Abdomen (AB)
- Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN)
- Pediatric Sonography (PS)
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
- Breast
- Musculoskeletal (MSK)
- CPR certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One (1) year of sonographer experience.
- Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination.
- Maintains assigned work area responsible for reporting any equipment not in proper working condition. Routine checks cords, carts for safety. Maintains JCAHO standards for ultrasound.
- Produces high quality ultrasound scans according to protocols and physicians orders in a timely manner. Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to organ to be scanned, the depth of field and other specifications of tests.
- Maintains working knowledge of scanning equipment, to maximize image quality and expedite exam. Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
- Assists Radiologists with patient procedures.
- Maintains records as required/prepares charge vouchers as required. Can adequately track, record and follow through electronic record systems.
- Sends all completed images to PACS.
- Keep CME points updated for ARDMS.
- Participates in in-service education in the department.
- Provides direction to and assists in cross training technologists.
- Complies with hospital and department policies.
- Performs related duties as assigned. (Statistics, research, schedules, QA, etc.)
- Performs sterile/isolation techniques to prevent cross‑contamination and adheres to OSHA standards.
- Properly assesses patient information on RMS system. Charges, changes and adds information as necessary to keep records accurate. Can access patient lab records, etc., as needed through electronic record systems. Responsible for verifying pre-certification of insurance for pre-certification on procedure that require it. Logs off after using computer. All orders and paperwork completed and scanned in to PACS.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and education appropriate to the age of the patients served. (Neonatal 0-11 months, Pediatric 1-12 years, Adolescence 13-17 years, Adult 18-79 years, Geriatric 80 years).
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development.
- Assesses information relative to patient's status and interprets this information to identify the age specific needs of each patient.
- Maintains an understanding of the range of treatment necessary for each patient and provides appropriate care based on their age specific needs.
- May remove oxygen tubing from a wall gauge, attach to an oxygen tank and adjust the flow meter on the tank as ordered by the physician.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Hearing (aid permitted) – must be able to function without use of lip reading.
- Visual acuity (corrected) – keen for both distant and near objects/individuals (i.e. ability to read small print).
