Minimum Qualifications

PA: No state license required
WV: Nuclear Medicine Technologist OR Nuclear Medicine Apprentice License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board
NOTE: If performing CT imaging in addition to PET, must additionally hold one of the following licenses through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board:

- Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
- Must possess current or temporary Nuclear Medicine license as required by state board where services will be provided:

WV: Nuclear Medicine Technologist OR Nuclear Medicine Apprentice License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board
NOTE: If performing CT imaging in addition to PET, must additionally hold one of the following licenses through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board:
- Radiological Technologist
- Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License
- Nuclear Medicine and Non-Diagnostic CT License
- Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Board (NMTCB) as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist within six months of hire.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings and activities to support progress improvement and team building.
- Participates in planning and implementing change, maintaining and improving high quality, cost effective department operations.
- Performs a full range of PET procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and ultimate treatment of patients.
- Plans and performs diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures to produce medical images and information for the diagnosis or treatment of patients meeting the quality standards of the department as identified through professional literature and department protocol, policy and procedure.
- Maintains professional and technical competencies as required by the organization, the accreditation and licensing bodies (where applicable).
- Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff in accordance with WVU Radiation Safety Department policy, procedure and guidelines as well as State, Federal, The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory bodies.
- Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification using identified communication mechanisms to ensure the performance of radiology services.
- Assesses patients needs related to comfort, hygiene and range of motion and provides support accordingly.
- Performs as a clinical and/or didactic instructor meeting the quality standards of the radiology education program(s) as identified through professional literature, department and radiology education program(s) protocol, policy and procedure.
- Differentiate various shades of gray and color as depicted on a monitor or photograph.
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
- Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
- Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, and explosive gases.
- Exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants.
- Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions.
- Exposure to electrical current.
- Exposure to high energy ionizing radiation.
- Exposure to toxic gas, fumes, and odors.
- Ability to interact with patients, families and members of the Health Care team.
- Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations at any given time.
- Proficient computer skills.

Level 1
- No experience required.
- All PET Technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one.
- Meets requirements for previous level.
- One year of experience.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus additional skill sets.
- Meets requirements for previous levels.
- One continuing education pathway.
- Three years of experience.
- Compliant in 3 leadership/supervisory skills.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus additional skill sets.
- Meets requirements for previous levels.
- One continuing education pathway.
- Five years of experience.
- Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills.
- Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus 3 additional skill sets.
