Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Processes and orders patient/physician orders according to procedure manual.
- Answers telephone in a friendly voice and caring manner.
- Transfers calls to appropriate associate and/or department according to need.
- Communicates with satellite labs and drawing stations for interpretation of physician orders, specimen requirements, etc.
- Trains and guides new associates of the laboratory.
- Directs phlebotomy team for STAT/now collections.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate to the adolescent, adult, geriatric patient per the established age-specific standard.
- Operates pneumatic chutes and answers them in a timely manner.
- Operates the telephone so not to prolong callers' waiting period and/or lose the call.
- Operates HIS and LIS computer systems according to the procedure manual.
- Prepares, sorts, and delivers patient reports to physician office boxes.
- Faxes reports to physicians' offices.
- Telephones in and outpatient results of critical values, including "Read Back", as needed by the technicians.
- Receives specimens into Lab Computer System.
- Delivers appropriate specimens to appropriate department.
- Replenishes outreach client supplies when needed.
- Inventory and order all office supplies.
- Inventory and order all computer system supplies.
- Orders tests on in and outpatients according to manual orders received.
- Communicates status of reports with nursing units and physician offices as appropriate.
- Wears task appropriate protective apparel.
- Complies with safety policies applicable to work area as outlined in the safety manual.
- Must be able to work well under high stress conditions.
- Must be able to perform duties while wearing protective apparel, when appropriate.
- Exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants.
- Exposure to high stress and frequent work interruptions.
- Exposure to electrical current
- Exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Must be able to handle and maintain confidential information.
- Must be able to adapt to various workloads and assignments.
- Must possess reading and comprehension skills.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to prioritize tasks.
- Must possess and demonstrate good basic knowledge of medical terminology and/or laboratory testing terms.
- Must possess and demonstrate good keyboarding/computer skills.
