Promotes the efficient operation of the Trauma Service with ongoing technical and clerical support of the internal and state Trauma data registry for Trauma care. Retrieves, analyzes and inputs data on patients entering the Trauma service, assures diagnosis and treatment codes are appropriate for injuries sustained. Disseminates data in accordance with state guidelines and hospital policy. Provides support to Trauma service for performance improvement activities.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Identifies all patients entering the hospital with a diagnosis compatible with Trauma care, using inclusion/exclusion criteria.
- Reviews all Emergency Department and admitted charts to identify patients with a traumatic injury diagnosis on a daily basis.
- Reviews Operating Room report to identify operative cases related to trauma on a daily basis.
- Collects pertinent patient information and records directly into registry software so information is available for Trauma Program Manager for rounds purpose.
- Enters patient data into trauma registry.
- Abstracts specific data points as defined by hospital policy or state registry requirements.
- Accurately assigns injury diagnosis and procedure codes in registry software.
- Transmits trauma abstracts to state registry in a timely manner.
- Assures abstracts are complete with all data elements documented within 2 weeks of patient discharge.
- Oversees the transmission of data to state registry at designated timeframes. Follows up with state personnel to assure data received.
- Resolves transmission issues promptly with state registry and/or software vendors.
- Provides support to Trauma Service using registry report writer and abstracting reports as request and/or scheduled.
- Provides reports as requested by Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Program Director or Department Manager.
- Provides support to Trauma Program quality improvement activities.
- Reports documentation issues to Trauma Program Manager.
- Assists with audit filters.
- Participates in other quality improvement activities as requested.
- Attends Trauma meeting and Trauma quality improvement meetings.
- Attends State registry educational sessions.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Cognizant of environmental factors, infection control issues and maintains a safe environment.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Proficient in Microsoft office.
- Knowledge of Smart Forms.
