Provides evaluation of and care for respiratory therapy patients under the direct supervision of a licensed registered or certified respiratory therapist.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:
  
  

WV: Student Respiratory Care Permit through the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care

• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  
  

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Working under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist certified or registered this position will:

• Set up and maintain low flow oxygen devices of 6 LPM or less to include nasal cannula or a simple mask.
• Set up and maintain aerosol devices with Fi02 of equal to or less than 50%.
• Deliver medications through a spontaneous small volume nebulizer.
• Deliver medication via Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) or dry powder inhaler
• Measure of peak flow, simple spirometry, and pulse oximetry.
• Administer the following airway clearance devices or techniques: therapy vest, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, suctioning via artificial airway, and positive expiratory pressure therapies.
• Communicate appropriately and effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care.
• Provides assistance with patient and family/caregiver education along with other members of the healthcare team.
