West Virginia Junior College is seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused IT Technician to support our faculty, staff, and students across campus systems and infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in maintaining secure, reliable technology operations and delivering responsive technical support in a higher education environment.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Active Directory, Google Workspace administration, firewall support, and network troubleshooting, and thrives in a fast-paced, service-oriented setting.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide Tier 1 & Tier 2 support for hardware, software, and network issues
- Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices
- Troubleshoot connectivity, authentication, and application issues
- Manage and document service requests in ticketing system
Active Directory Administration
- Create, modify, and disable user accounts
- Manage security groups and permissions
- Apply and troubleshoot Group Policies (GPOs)
- Support domain-joined device management
Google Workspace Administration
- Manage user accounts, email, shared drives, and distribution lists
- Enforce security settings (MFA, password policies, device controls)
- Troubleshoot Google Admin Console issues
Network & Firewall Support
- Assist with firewall configuration and rule management
- Support network infrastructure (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, wireless)
- Monitor connectivity and resolve performance issues
Security & System Maintenance
- Support endpoint protection systems
- Assist with patch management and updates
- Maintain IT documentation and asset inventory
- Help ensure data security and compliance standards
Qualifications
Required
- Associate degree in IT or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2 years of IT support experience
- Working knowledge of:
- Microsoft Active Directory
- Google Workspace Administration
- Firewall technologies
- Windows 10/11 and Windows Server
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills
Preferred
- CompTIA A , Network , or Security certification
- Experience in higher education or multi-location environments
- Familiarity with virtualization or backup systems
