Key Responsibilities
Sales and Use Tax
- Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns
- Review transactions to ensure proper tax treatment and compliance with applicable regulations
- Reconcile sales tax accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Maintain tax exemption certificates and resale documentation
- Research sales and use tax laws and communicate impacts to the business, including working with project managers to incorporate proper sales/use tax treatment in the bidding and estimating process
- Support sales tax audits and respond to inquiries from taxing authorities
- Research or coordinate research on international tax issues
- Support the tax provision process, including current and deferred tax calculations
- Prepare related state calculations, including franchise taxes, business activities taxes
- Prepare tax account reconciliations and journal entries
- Gather and analyze data required for tax filings and compliance reporting
- Assist with estimated tax payments and tax forecasting activities
- Oversee tax depreciations and amortization calculations
- Research tax law changes and assess their impact on the organization
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns and payments
- Maintain tax calendars and monitor filing deadlines
- Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers for audits and financial reporting
- Assist with responses to tax notices and correspondence from tax authorities
- Support internal and external audits related to tax matters
- Identify opportunities to improve tax compliance processes and controls
- Assist in implementing tax software and automation initiatives
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, Operations, and IT teams to improve tax reporting accuracy
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA designation or progress toward CPA preferred
- 2–5 years of experience in sales tax, income tax, public accounting, or corporate tax
- Experience with multi-state tax compliance preferred
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, etc.) preferred
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with tax software such as Vertex, Avalara, OneSource, or CCH preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Critical thinking and research skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
