WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time construction field inspector with an electrical background for delivering Construction Inspection Services on transportation projects in our client's field office (NY & NJ). The candidate will be involved in projects with our Project Management/Construction Management team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges, including expertise in electrical system installations and installation of new fire alarms, as well as integration with existing facility-wide fire alarm systems.

Expected Salary: $85,900 - $143,700

The candidate will be involved in projects with our Project Management/Construction Management team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges, including expertise in electrical system installations and installation of new fire alarms, as well as integration with existing facility-wide fire alarm systems.
Your Impact
- Provide assistance to the Project Manager / Resident Engineer as directed
- Overall contract compliance via daily inspections for all electrical construction work, and electrical and communications systems including fire alarm installations and integration with facility-wide systems
- Prepare daily inspection reports in accordance with the project's requirements, recording and reporting any deviations from contract documents
- Review contractor As-Builts monthly to ensure they are updated
- Conduct and document, per client procedures, onsite QA/QC activities through use of: 1st Delivery Inspections, Closure Inspections, Mock-Up Inspections, and Factory and Field Acceptance Testing
- Prepare and coordinate Pre-Activity meetings prior to significant scopes of work
- Perform a detailed comparison of the contract drawings, specifications, and approved product submittals to ensure conformance with the contract, paying particular attention to electrical systems and fire alarm integration
- Monitoring of sub-contractor & supplier usage to ensure pre-approval before work starts
- Assist the contractor(s) with the coordination of activities on the construction site with the other trades and the facility, including coordination of electrical and fire alarm installations
- Monitor workforce and performance against the work plan
- Monitor compliance with generally accepted standards of workmanship
- Offer recommendations to improve constructability
- Complete punch lists and track completion
- Coordination and scheduling with 3rd party specialty inspections
- Perform additional duties as deemed necessary
- 11 years minimum experience in construction experience including knowledge of electrical and communications systems including work on fire alarm systems, facility construction methods and working in operating transportation environments, materials, standards, and specifications, with knowledge of all facets of construction and construction documents. Transportation facilities experience is a plus.
- Ability to pass Safety Training
- Must be able to manage the various projects using established controls and procedures and provide jobsite leadership in all areas of scheduling, safety, quality, coordination with the designers and any critical issues pertinent to the project or the client / facility.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials, including those related to electrical systems and fire alarm installation and integration
- Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment guidelines and regulations.
- Strong electrical engineering background with experience of inspection requirements for electrical system inspections and fire alarm installations
- Have a full working knowledge of the change order and cost review process and the review / approval of contractor’s payment application.
- Proficient in basic computer skills utilizing Windows / Outlook / Word / Excel and scheduling applications
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license - Occasional travel within the region may be required.
- Must be available to work alternate work hours on as-needed basis.
- Proven ability to adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- This hire will be contingent upon client selection and successful background checks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Electrical construction field inspection project experience with transportation facilities background is preferred
- OSHA 30 Hour certified required
- Experience with local governmental Agency Construction preferred
- Experience with electrical systems, fire alarm installation, and facility-wide fire alarm integration preferred
