WSP has a new opportunity for an Associate Water Resource Modeler to join our team in our Seattle, WA office. The following location will also be considered: Lakewood, CO. WSP has developed numerous dynamic system models, primarily using the GoldSim software, for clients around the world to evaluate environmental impacts, assist operators with water management, evaluate regulatory compliance, and other considerations. Typical applications include the evaluation of water supply requirements under varying climate or production scenarios; water quality/environmental impact assessments; design alternatives comparisons; water treatment studies; and mine closure studies/financial assurance evaluations. The team regularly collaborates with experts in other disciplines including surface water hydraulics and infrastructure design, soil science, hydroclimatology and unsaturated flow modeling.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $67,600 - $111,650

WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $67,600 - $104,720

Your Impact
- Participate in the development of probabilistic, dynamic systems-based water balance and water quality models for the mining industry under the direction of intermediate and senior modelers.
- Apply critical thinking skills to help solve complex problems.
- Support project teams with data analysis and interpretation.
- Develop conceptual models and basis-of-design documents under the direction of intermediate and senior modelers.
- Conduct site visits to understand the layout and operational logic of the system that is being modeled.
- Assist with the preparation of proposals, presentations, and technical reports under the direction of intermediate and senior modelers.
- Participate in client meetings.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to complete permitting, operational optimization, and closure assessments for large mining operations.
- Manage priorities to support multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, water resources engineering or related field of study.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Familiarity with hydrologic models (e.g., rainfall-runoff models) through projects, coursework, or a thesis project.
- Experience interpreting hydrological and climate data.
- Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to quickly recognize significant discrepancies and logic errors.
- Strong understanding of the hydrologic cycle.
- Interest in probabilistic and dynamic simulation modeling.
- Interest in water stewardship, mine water management, and water quality issues.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with data analysis using tools such as R, VBA, MATLAB, or python and the ability to manage and manipulate large datasets.
- English fluency and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to listen carefully to instructions, assimilate large amounts of information, and adapt to changes quickly.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally (including internationally, typically less than one-week duration).
- Master’s degree in environmental engineering, water resources engineering or related field of study.
- Exposure to dynamic simulation software (e.g., GoldSim, Stella, etc.) through projects, coursework, or a thesis project.
- Exposure to GoldSim model development experience, ideally in mine water management.
