Cylinder Filler

Position Summary

We are hiring a Gas Cylinder Filler to fill high-pressure cylinders with pure gases and to prepare custom gas mixtures by gravimetric (weight-based) blending. This is a hands-on production role in our fill plant. You will work with high-pressure equipment, analytical balances, and documented procedures under an accredited quality system.

This is a skilled position. We will train the right person on our specific systems, but you must be careful, methodical, and comfortable following written procedures exactly.

Key Responsibilities

Pure gas filling

• Transfill cylinders from bulk sources, tube trailers, and manifolds (helium, nitrogen, argon, oxygen, CO₂, hydrogen, and others).

• Prepare cylinders prior to filling: inspection, evacuation, purging, and heating/drying as required by the procedure.

• Verify fill pressure and quantity; correct for temperature.

Gravimetric mixture filling

• Prepare multi-component gas mixtures by weight using calibrated analytical balances, following the applicable work instruction and blend sheet.

• Calculate and verify component masses, target concentrations, and fill order.

• Roll, mix, and homogenize cylinders per procedure prior to release for analysis.

• Coordinate with the lab for analysis and re-blending when a mixture is out of tolerance.

Cylinder handling and compliance

• Verify cylinder eligibility before filling: hydrostatic test/requalification date, valve and CGA connection type, service pressure, prior contents, and visual condition.

• Reject and tag any cylinder that does not meet requirements.

• Apply correct labels, tags, and hazard communication markings.

• Handle, move, and stage cylinders safely, including forklift and cylinder cart operation.

Documentation and quality

• Complete fill records, batch records, and traceability documentation accurately and legibly, in real time.

• Follow all SOPs and quality-system requirements under our ISO 17025 / ISO 17034 accreditation.

• Report equipment problems, deviations, and non-conformances immediately.

Housekeeping and safety

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fill area.

• Use required PPE at all times and follow all safety rules without exception.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.

• Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures in English (Spanish/English bilingual is a plus).

• Solid basic math skills — you must be comfortable with unit conversions, percentages, and reading a balance to several decimal places.

• Strong attention to detail and willingness to stop and ask rather than guess.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and to move and handle high-pressure cylinders (including 200 lb cylinders using carts and mechanical aids) throughout the shift.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on your feet for the full shift, in a warehouse environment that is not climate-controlled.

• Reliable attendance and punctuality.

• Must pass a background check and drug screen.

• Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 years of experience filling compressed gas cylinders, or experience in a gas plant, cryogenics, chemical plant, or similar high-pressure industrial environment.

• Experience with gravimetric blending or specialty/calibration gas production.

• Familiarity with DOT/CGA cylinder requirements, CGA valve outlet connections, and cylinder requalification requirements.

• Forklift certification.

• Experience working under an ISO-accredited or otherwise documented quality system.

• Basic computer skills (data entry, ERP/order system).

Pay: $35,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
