What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machine Operator Weekday Swing (3:30PM-2AM, M-Th) position at WSM Manufacturing?
SUMMARY:
Responsible for safe, effective and efficient set up of CNC machines. Adjusts and checks out programming, and operates numerically controlled machine tools to perform a series of progressive machining operations on repetitive work to close to exact tolerances and finish specifications under minimal supervision of the machine shop supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Cleans and maintains machine, tooling, and parts to maintain equipment in optimal production condition
· Performs basic line modifications in programs
· Adjusts programs’ feed and speed to increase efficiency
· Administers set ups and program edits; reads and understands all inspection reports
· Identifies and replaces damaged or worn tools when necessary
· Exercises special care to ensure the machine is running correctly
· Observes machine operation to verify accuracy of machine settings and to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; reports issues
· Reads prints and checks part specifications by using calipers to ensure accuracy
· Consults with machine shop supervisor on first article inspection for quality assurance purposes
· Inspects work pieces throughout the production run to identify out-of-tolerance machining
· Verifies that parts are in conformance to specifications.
· Navigates between controller screens to make adjustments for off-sets when needed
· Recovers machine from alarm scenarios
· Troubleshoots machine operation and run issues and identifies appropriate solutions; communicates issues and solutions to machine shop supervisor, implements solutions upon approval
· Effectively operates all machines with different controls in two or more cells
· Identifies and uses tooling associated with specific machines
· Observes machine operation to verify accuracy of machine settings and detects malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining
· Takes a pro-active role in preventative maintenance of the machines in a cell
· Performs effective start up and shut down procedures
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION
· High school diploma or GED required
· Visual acuity requirements to include depth perception and field of vision for the purposes of effectively performing activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes
· A proven history of using precision measuring equipment is required
· Must be able to read and interpret documents such as drawings, work orders, work instructions
· Must be able to perform basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and trigonometry)
· Must possess strong conceptual skills
· Willingness and ability to participate in process improvement
· Strong functional and technical skills
· Keen understanding of equipment controls and instrumentation
· General understanding of the concepts of supply management, tooling, inventory control
· Ability to use hand deburring tools to prep parts for next operation
· Possesses broad knowledge of machining techniques and familiarity with computer numerically controlled machine tool operating procedures
· Common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to function in high-pressure situations
· Manual dexterity to operate computer
· Correctable vision and hearing
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Ability to move through approximately 20,000 square foot building
· Ability to stand for prolonged periods in front of production equipment
· Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
· Must be able to stand and / or move around while performing job duties
· Must be able to bend or reach when performing job duties
