Plate Press Operator
Location: Clarington, OH
Pay Rate: Starting at $18.00 per hour
Job Summary
The Plate Press Operator is responsible for pressing and verifying the flatness of steel plates and parts according to established half-standard tolerance requirements. This position ensures all products meet customer specifications while following company quality standards, safety procedures, and production requirements. The operator will inspect materials, operate plate press equipment, complete inspections, and record production data within the ERP system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Locate, identify, and verify materials to be processed.
- Inspect plate flatness using straight edges and taper gauges.
- Determine required tolerance specifications prior to pressing operations.
- Set up plates on the press bed using spacer blocks and proper positioning techniques.
- Operate plate press equipment to achieve required flatness tolerances.
- Verify completed parts meet specified tolerance requirements after pressing.
- Complete and maintain inspection records and production documentation.
- Enter accurate inspection and production data into the ERP system.
- Safely operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment as needed.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
- Perform quality inspections throughout the production process.
- Assist with general production activities as required.
- Perform all duties associated with General Labor/Operator A.
- Complete other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure.
- Ability to read and interpret taper gauges using a straight edge.
- Knowledge of equipment setup and production processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
- Basic computer skills and ability to work within an ERP system.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Manufacturing, steel processing, or industrial experience preferred.
- Overhead crane experience preferred but not required.
- Physical Requirements
- Stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequently walk and move throughout the production area.
- Occasionally kneel, bend, stoop, and reach.
- Occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely around moving equipment and heavy materials.
Work Environment
- Rolling Mill and Steel Service Center environment.
- Exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
- Exposure to industrial noise, moving equipment, and steel products.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
