WRT is seeking an Applications Engineer to help develop innovative water treatment solutions for municipal and industrial customers across North America. In this role, you'll work alongside Sales, Engineering, Operations, and R&D to evaluate customer requirements, develop equipment concepts, prepare technical proposals, and support projects from the initial inquiry through project award.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate customer requirements, specifications, RFQs, and site information to develop effective treatment solutions.
  • Design preliminary treatment system concepts, process flow diagrams, and equipment layouts.
  • Size and select major process equipment, including pumps, pressure vessels, filtration systems, media systems, and chemical feed equipment.
  • Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, quotations, and supporting documentation.
  • Compare vendor quotations and recommend equipment based on performance, quality, cost, and lead time.
  • Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and R&D to develop competitive solutions.
  • Provide technical support during customer meetings, proposal reviews, training sessions, and occasional site visits.
  • Support pilot testing by operating pilot equipment and analyzing performance data.
  • Assist with project handoff to Project Management by communicating design intent, assumptions, and customer requirements.
  • Help improve proposal templates, technical resources, standard specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, product development efforts, and technical marketing content.
  • Prepare aftermarket and spare parts quotations for existing treatment systems.


What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Two or more years of engineering experience in water treatment, environmental, industrial, or a related field.
  • Experience preparing technical proposals, estimates, quotations, or engineering documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Ability to work full-time onsite in Westminster, Colorado.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with municipal or industrial water treatment systems.
  • Knowledge of ion exchange, filtration, adsorption, or related treatment technologies.
  • Experience reviewing municipal specifications, RFQs, and bid documents.
  • Experience preparing proposals for engineered equipment or water treatment systems.
  • Experience with pilot testing, commissioning, or field applications.
  • Experience working with equipment vendors and manufacturers.
  • AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD experience.
  • Experience with ERP or proposal management software.
  • Familiarity with PLC-based controls and instrumentation.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT/FE) certification or interest in pursuing licensure.
