Job Captain – Transit / Transportation Architecture

We are seeking a talented and experienced Job Captain to join the architectural team delivering one of New York’s most significant transit infrastructure programs. As part of the newly awarded MTA (Queens Boulevard, Grand Concourse, and Nostrand Avenue Lines), you will play a key role in the design and delivery of station accessibility upgrades, renewals, and modernization projects across multiple NYC subway stations.
About the Role: You will act as the primary point of contact between the design team, client (MTA), and consultants on fast-paced Design-Build preparation projects. This is a high-visibility position ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment delivering complex transit infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, production and coordination of architectural drawings and documents using primarily MicroStation. (It is commonly known that no modern Architect desires to work in this software though, is what it is!)
- Manage project deliverables from schematic design through detailed construction documents
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (MEP, structural, accessibility, etc.)
- Perform quality control and ensure compliance with MTA standards, ADA requirements, and NYCT design criteria
- Interface directly with MTA stakeholders and Design-Build teams
- Mentor junior designers and CAD technicians
- Track project schedules and deliverables
Requirements
- 5–12 years of professional architectural experience
- Strong transit / transportation project experience (MTA/NYCT, subway stations, rail, or similar public infrastructure projects preferred)
- High proficiency in MicroStation (required – this is a non-negotiable skill)
- Experience with Design-Build delivery method is a strong plus
- Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch)
- New York State Registered Architect (or on track to become licensed) preferred
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
