Position Overview
The Field Manager is the lead manager for all weekend adoption operations at Wright-Way Rescue. This role is responsible for overseeing the transport, care, and adoption of animals, while managing staff and volunteers to ensure a safe, efficient, and positive experience for both animals and adopters. The Field Manager sets the standard for animal welfare, customer service, and operational excellence, acting as the primary decision-maker and leader during weekend adoption activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management
- Serve as the primary manager and decision-maker for all weekend adoption operations.
- Supervise, lead, and support volunteers and adoption staff, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate schedules, delegate responsibilities, and troubleshoot operational challenges in real time.
- Set and maintain high standards for customer service, animal care, and staff performance.
Animal Transport & Logistics
- Oversee the safe transport of animals to the Morton Grove facility using a large rescue vehicle.
- Ensure all animals are transported safely, comfortably, and in compliance with rescue protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of the transport vehicle.
Adoption Program Oversight
- Take the lead in managing weekend adoption events and daily center operations.
- Ensure smooth workflows, high-quality customer experiences, and adherence to Wright-Way Rescue's adoption standards.
- Approve and verify all adopter interactions, contracts, and communication.
Animal Care, Health, & Behavior Oversight
- Oversee the medical and behavioral well-being of all animals available for adoption.
- Ensure complete and accurate medical records are maintained and communicated to adopters.
- Identify and address health or behavioral concerns in collaboration with veterinary and behavioral teams.
- Implement and enforce proper shelter disease control practices; must have or be able to quickly learn disease prevention and management from a shelter medicine perspective.
- Veterinary or shelter medicine experience preferred but we will train the right candidate.
Administrative & Compliance Duties
- Maintain organized documentation, adoption files, and records.
- Ensure all weekend operations comply with rescue protocols, safety procedures, and animal welfare regulations.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Long weekend hours required (Friday–Sunday) and overnight driving
- Four consecutive days off during the week.
- Fast-paced, mission-driven environment, involving indoor/outdoor work and regular interaction with animals and the public.
- Physically active role requiring lifting, bending, and extended periods of standing.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership and people-management experience.
- Ability to safely drive a large vehicle (small bus or extended Promaster) and good driving record.
- Exceptional customer service, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience with or willingness to quickly learn disease control, sanitation, and medical best practices in shelter environments.
- Preferred experience in veterinary medicine or shelter medicine.
- Comfortable working with dogs and cats of varying sizes, temperaments, and medical needs.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and decisive.
