The EHS Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Rockford, MN, responsible for supporting and advancing Wright-Hennepin’s environmental, health, and safety programs. This role conducts regular safety inspections, audits, and job-site observations to identify hazards and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies. The EHS Specialist develops, implements, and updates safety procedures, emergency response plans, and EHS documentation, while maintaining accurate records and reports. The role delivers safety training and toolbox talks for employees and contractors, promoting a proactive safety culture across the organization. It collaborates with operations, HR, and leadership to investigate incidents, recommend corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental performance.


Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, this role is part of a small but mighty HR team supporting nearly 200 employees and works closely with the HR Generalist, Facilities Manager, and Payroll & Benefits Administrator.


Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $32.00-40.00/hour plus annual bonus

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Health & Safety and Occupational Health, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Experience in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) program development, implementation, and monitoring within utility, construction, or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Safety practices, including hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective action planning.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective Safety Training, including classroom sessions, field-based instruction, and ongoing safety communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of reports, procedures, and training materials.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and EHS-related systems or databases.
  • Relevant education such as an associate or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional EHS certifications (e.g., CSP, ASP, OHST, CHST) are preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work on-site in field conditions, including performing site visits and inspections across the service territory, and meeting physical demands consistent with the role.
