We are a growing Massachusetts family law firm seeking a Managing Attorney to lead our legal team and oversee litigation strategy across the firm.
This is a senior leadership role focused on running the legal team, driving case outcomes, and ensuring accountability across all matters. This role works closely with the CEO and COO within a structured, systems-driven environment that supports both high-quality legal work and operational efficiency.
You will not be responsible for firm operations, billing, or administrative management. Those functions are handled by the firm’s operations team.
• Lead and manage attorneys and legal staff across all active matters
• Run regular case review meetings to ensure strategy, progress, and accountability
• Provide coaching, feedback, and performance oversight for attorneys at all levels
• Ensure alignment and consistency across the legal team
• Oversee litigation strategy from intake through resolution
• Serve as a senior resource for complex and high-conflict matters
• Work closely with the firm’s Head of Litigation on trial strategy and case execution
• Identify risks, escalate key issues, and guide critical decision-making
• Ensure all cases are moving forward with clear strategy and defined next steps
• Maintain a reduced, high-level caseload focused on complex or high-value matters
• Support strong client outcomes through effective legal strategy and team execution
• Partner with the COO to monitor and improve:
- Attorney billable performance
- Case progression timelines
- Legal team productivity and efficiency
• Enforce systems, workflows, and standards across the legal team
This role is:
• A legal leadership position with clear authority over the legal team
• Focused on strategy, performance, and case outcomes
• Supported by a COO who oversees operations and business systems
This role is NOT:
• Responsible for billing, HR, or administrative management
• Dependent on generating business or maintaining a book of clients
• A symbolic title without real authority
• 7 years of experience in family law and divorce litigation (10 preferred)
• Strong courtroom and trial experience
• Demonstrated ability to manage cases from strategy through resolution
• Prior experience mentoring or supervising attorneys or legal staff
• Clear, decisive communication and strong judgment
• Ability to operate in a structured, systems-driven environment
• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active membership in the Massachusetts Bar
• Proficiency with legal technology and case management systems
• $190,000 – $225,000 base salary performance-based bonuses
