Wright County is seeking temporary election staff to serve in two roles.

  • Absentee Clerk
  • Absentee Ballot Board Member

Interested individuals may serve in both roles.

Work hours: A varied schedule during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, which may also include limited evening and weekend hours for up to 67 days intermittently from June through November.

Essential Functions

Absentee Clerk:

  • Respond to voter inquiries in-person or via telephone regarding election-related questions.
  • Enter voter registration applications into the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS).
  • Fulfill absentee voting requests in-person or via mail.
  • Assist with the preparation of election materials.
  • Perform other election-related duties and activities as assigned.

Absentee Ballot Board Member:

  • Serve as a member of the Wright County Absentee Ballot Board, including:
    • review of return absentee ballot envelopes.
    • preparation of absentee ballots for tabulation.
    • prepare closeout reports.
  • Perform other election-related duties and activities as assigned.

Absentee Ballot Board members & Absentee Clerks will be required to disclose political party affiliation to county election staff to ensure tasks are performed with required political party balance.

Minimum Qualifications & Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Individuals with previous election administration or election judge experience are encouraged to apply

Licenses/Certifications

  • Election training will be provided upon hire.

Special Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required upon hire.
  • Must meet Minnesota State Election Judge Qualifications: eligible to vote in Minnesota; must be at least 18 years of age; able to read, write and speak English; cannot be a candidate, or the spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild, sibling, or stepsibling of a candidate on the ballot, or domiciled, either permanent or temporarily, with any candidate on the ballot.
  • Adhere to the MN election judge code of conduct; faithfully following election laws, to the best of your ability; performing duties in a fair and impartial manner.


Knowledge of, or ability to learn, election laws and procedures; basic skill in the use of standard office equipment; basic skill in the use of Microsoft Office and/or Apple products; ability to use specialized voting equipment and software including, but not limited to the Statewide Voter Registration System; ability to communicate courteously and professionally while maintaining positive working relationships with others when carrying out all job functions. Reading comprehension skills sufficient to read and understand technical documents specific to the activities; accurately compile, input, and verify data; ability to pay close attention to detail and perform tasks with total accuracy; ability to successfully respond to changing circumstances; ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
