Nelson Media Company is seeking a driven, community-focused Newspaper Editor to lead editorial coverage for the Wright County Independent, a newly formed county-wide newspaper built on the legacy of three longtime publications.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who believes in the power of local journalism and takes pride in producing high-quality, relevant, and engaging content each week.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and manage weekly editorial content for a county-wide newspaper
- Provide consistent, in-depth coverage of Clarion, Belmond, and Eagle Grove as the primary communities
- Cover local news, including city councils, schools, businesses, and community events
- Assign stories and collaborate with writers and freelancers
- Ensure all content meets AP Style and high editorial standards
- Manage deadlines and oversee the full weekly production cycle
- Work closely with design and operations teams to deliver a polished final product
- Build strong relationships across Wright County to strengthen coverage and community trust
What We’re Looking For:
- Prior newspaper or journalism experience required
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A passion for local journalism and storytelling
- Self-motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented
