Job Description

 

Position Title: Process Coordinator 

Reports To: Director of Special Education 

Summary: The Process Coordinator assesses the needs of children and supports the District’s educational programs. The Process Coordinator coordinates special education services for students with disabilities and assists general and special education staff in providing effective instructional programs through ongoing staff collaboration, training and program development and evaluation.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Assists with creating and implementing District’s policies and procedures and ensures compliance with Board policies, as well as  District, state and federal laws and guidelines. 
  2. Assists in the identification of all types of exceptional students within the school system.
  3. Performs education assessment of students, including observation of the student, review of the student’s educational history, conferences with the student’s teachers and an evaluation and analysis of the student’s academic performance and learning characteristics.
  4. Assists in coordinating, developing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
  5.  Instructs and monitors special education teacher’s paperwork for compliance, and evaluations, including use of the SpedTrack data management program. 
  6. Serve as Local Education Agency Representative (LEA) at IEP/Individual Service Plan  (ISP) meetings to assure compliance including situations where significant program  resources/issues are anticipated. 
  7.  Monitors and analyzes special education discipline, including attending and leading disability  manifestation meetings and monitoring discipline for changes of placement.
  8. Works collaboratively with special education staff and administrators to ensure the provision of special education services, including related services.
  9. Assists in scheduling for special education students, paraprofessionals and teachers. 
  10. Monitors special education files for compliance with State and Federal regulations and  participates in Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) as needed.
  11. Monitors programs/students in outside placements including attending IEPs, conducting  program visits and facilitating communications. 
  12. Provide quality professional development in the use of research-based  instruction/methodology, programming, Co-Teaching, IEP decision-making, data  collection, meaningful goal writing, behavioral intervention, Missouri Assessment  Program (MAP) or Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) preparation, post-secondary  transition planning, transition between buildings, staffing, the special education process  and compliance and monitor building consistency. 
  13. Demonstrate positive professional relationships and communication with District employees, students parents, and community. 
  14. Teach, model, and facilitate research-based best practices: 
    1. Work with teachers to develop effective teaching strategies and tools to aid the instructional process 
    2. Work with teachers to develop effective classroom assessment strategies 
    3. Work with teachers on using assessment data to drive student/classroom instruction
  15.  Provides student instruction and special education services, as necessary.
  16. Assists Special Education Director using data to anticipate programmatic needs, support  student achievement and recommend improvements.
  17. Collects and monitors thorough and timely  data for reporting requirements for State reports, i.e. Core Data,  December 1 Child Count, Exit Report, and MSIP process. 
  18. Assists with technology for special education, including individual assistive devices. 
  19. Assists in interviewing and selecting special education staff. 
  20. Assists in ordering special education materials and special education budget planning  and development. 
  21.  Prepares, plans and coordinates short and long-range goals for special education.  
  22.  Attends local/regional/national conferences and workshops, in-service training, staff  meetings and credit courses (when necessary) in order to keep abreast of new  developments and maintain certification and/or license. 
  23.  Creates and maintains thorough and timely required reports and educational  records, archival of records, and destruction of records for special education.
  24.  Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Master’s degree 
  • Minimum of five years of experience provide special education instruction and services

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

  • Missouri Special Education Administrator or School Leader certification, preferred
  • Missouri Certification in Special Education 

Language Skills 

Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports, records and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of stakeholders or employees of the organization. 

Mathematical Skills 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to apply mathematical concepts including basic algebra and  geometry. 

Reasoning Ability 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,  or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in  standardized situations. 

 

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The  ability to accompany  and supervise students anywhere on school premises. The employee is occasionally  required to stoop or kneel. Regular attendance on the job is expected and necessary.  Additionally, the employee must be able to implement all Board of Education policies, district  procedures and to perform Safe Crisis Management procedures (when trained). The employee  must be physically able to react and intervene quickly during crisis situations.  

-Exerts up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or 

-Exerts up to 25 lbs of force frequently, and/or 

-Exerts greater than negligible up to 10lbs. constantly.  

Terms of Employment: 

Each Process Coordinator will be provided a work schedule. The work calendar may be modified  by the Board of Education/Director of Special Education/Principal at any time, as needs dictate.  Terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of  Education’s policies, agreements and approvals. This is a 9-month position with extra days as specified in the job offer and employment contract.
