What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Mechanical Technician – Mobile & In-Shop position at Wrex Automotive?
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced, dependable Automotive Mechanical Technician to join our growing automotive service operation. This is a hybrid position combining traditional in-shop automotive repair with mobile mechanical service at customer and fleet locations.
This is not a diesel technician position. Our mechanical service operation focuses on gasoline-powered passenger vehicles, SUVs, light-duty trucks, and vans.
The ideal candidate is a well-rounded technician who is comfortable diagnosing problems, completing repairs independently, communicating professionally with customers, and working both in a fully equipped shop and in the field.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in doing the job correctly, maintains a clean and safe work environment, and understands that providing an excellent customer experience is just as important as completing a quality repair.
Schedule
This is a full-time position working a consistent four-day schedule:
- Sunday–Wednesday
- Wednesday–Saturday
Technicians will generally work four 10-hour shifts per week. Schedule assignment may be based on business needs, experience, and availability.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems on gasoline-powered passenger vehicles, SUVs, light trucks, and vans
- Perform automotive repairs and maintenance both in-shop and at mobile service locations
- Complete oil changes and preventative maintenance services
- Perform brake inspections, brake repairs, and component replacement
- Diagnose and repair steering and suspension systems
- Perform battery, starting, and charging system diagnosis and repair
- Diagnose check-engine lights and other vehicle warning systems
- Perform cooling system diagnosis and repairs
- Complete belt, hose, fluid, filter, and routine maintenance services
- Perform minor engine and drivability repairs
- Use professional diagnostic equipment, scan tools, and service information
- Conduct vehicle inspections and identify current and future repair needs
- Accurately document inspections, diagnostic findings, repairs performed, and recommended services
- Provide accurate information needed to prepare repair estimates
- Verify completed repairs and perform quality-control checks
- Maintain tools, equipment, service vehicles, and work areas in clean and safe condition
- Properly maintain and account for parts, supplies, fluids, and equipment used during mobile service
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding vehicle concerns and completed repairs
- Work with other technicians and management to efficiently schedule and complete repairs
- Follow all company safety procedures and industry-standard repair practices
Diesel diagnosis and repair are not part of this position.

- Determining whether a repair can safely and appropriately be completed in the field
- Maintaining an organized mobile service vehicle
- Safely transporting tools, equipment, fluids, and parts
- Communicating with customers at their homes or businesses
- Providing the same professional quality of service in the field that customers would receive at the shop
Jobs that cannot safely or efficiently be completed in the field will be scheduled for completion at the shop.

- Professional automotive repair or mechanical experience
- Strong understanding of gasoline-powered automotive systems
