Description: Custodian
Hours: Monday – Friday, 3:00 pm-11:00 pm
(Note: Starting mid-June for the summer, the schedule changes to a four-day workweek consisting of 10-hour day shifts. Hours also transition to day schedule during all school breaks)
Must be able to work flexible hours for snow removal, emergencies, and to cover alternative shifts as needed.
General Responsibilities
Responsible for the daily cleaning, sanitization, and general upkeep of the school building to ensure a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for students and staff. In addition to daily custodial tasks, this role includes seasonal responsibilities such as snow removal, summer deep cleaning, and minor facility upkeep, including painting.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs, bend, twist, complete ladder work, and safely use and maintain cleaning tools and equipment. Reports to the Facilities Manager on the overall condition and environmental safety of the facility. Must be available for emergency call-ins during evenings, weekends, or inclement weather.
Typical Duties
Cleaning & Sanitization: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors. Empty trash and recycling receptacles daily. Thoroughly clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, cafeterias, corridors, and common areas. Restock facility supplies (soap, paper products, etc.).
Summer & Break Deep Cleaning: Participate heavily in school break maintenance, including stripping and waxing floors, shampooing carpets, moving classroom furniture, and thoroughly washing walls, desks, and windows.
Seasonal & Grounds Upkeep: Perform snow removal tasks, including shoveling and applying ice melt to walkways and entrances to ensure safe access to the building.
General Upkeep & Painting: Perform minor facility upkeep, including interior painting projects and touch-ups. Continually monitor the building and report any major maintenance or repair needs (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) to the Facilities Manager.
Event Support: Assist with moving furniture and the setup/breakdown of chairs, tables, and equipment for school events, assemblies, and meetings.
