POSITION TITLE: Director of Philanthropy

SALARY LEVEL: $80,000 – $100,000


INCENTIVE COMPENSATION: This position is eligible for a performance-based incentive equal to

2% of every full $100,000 in qualifying new funds generated through

the Director of Philanthropy's efforts. Incentive compensation is

contingent upon achievement of fundraising goals and

organizational performance targets established at the start of each

fiscal year. Incentive eligibility requires active employment in good

standing at the time of distribution.


JOB DEFINITION: The Director of Philanthropy provides strategic leadership for the

organization’s fundraising and development function, designing and

executing a comprehensive philanthropic program to sustain and

grow the organization’s mission and programs. As a member of the

senior leadership team, this role sets the long-term development

vision and strategy, establishes annual fundraising goals in

partnership with the CEO, and provides monthly performance

updates to track progress toward these goals. The Director leads

the annual campaign, cultivates and stewards the organization’s

most significant donor relationships in close partnership with the

CEO and Board, and holds overall accountability for all aspects of

development, including donor stewardship, major and planned gifts,

corporate and foundation partnerships, grants, and signature

fundraising events. The Director also builds, leads, and develops

the development team.


REPORTS TO: CEO


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business

Administration, Humanities or a related field; advanced degree or

CFRE certification preferred. 7 years of progressive leadership

experience in nonprofit development, including a proven record of

personally securing major and principal gifts, leading

comprehensive fundraising programs, and building and managing

high-performing development teams. Demonstrated success setting

fundraising strategy and meeting or exceeding multi-million-dollar

revenue goals. Proficiency with donor database management,

moves management, and data analysis. Working knowledge of

current federal (IRS) and state (CA) rules and regulations governing

charitable giving. Must successfully complete a criminal background

check prior to employment. Once employed, must complete an 80-

hour training to become a certified Domestic Violence/Sexual

Assault Counselor.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

•   Set the organization’s long-term development strategy and establish annual fundraising goals with input from the CEO, ensure alignment with organizational priorities, and provide monthly updates on performance to plan.

•   Design, direct, and execute the organization’s annual campaign, integrating direct mail, digital outreach, personal solicitations, and events to maximize donor engagement and revenue.

•   Partner with the CEO and Board to establish and deepen relationships with donors, focusing on building connections between donors and WRC’s leadership, mission, and programs.

•   Personally manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects; identify, cultivate, solicit, and secure six- and seven-figure gifts from individual, corporate, and foundation donors, while expanding the donor base.

•   Develop and oversee a robust donor stewardship program, ensuring meaningful recognition and fostering long-term donor relationships.

•   Build, lead, mentor, and develop the development team, setting performance expectations and fostering a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

•   Oversee the planning and execution of major fundraising events including the annual gala.

•   Partner with the CEO and program leaders to identify funding opportunities, align initiatives, and engage board members in fundraising efforts.

•   Direct the creation of compelling fundraising materials, represent WRC at public events and donor meetings, and organize tours and informational gatherings to inspire donor support.

•   Leverage donor management systems to track performance metrics, analyze trends, and inform strategic decision-making to optimize fundraising results.

•   Develop and manage the development department budget.

•   Other duties as assigned.
