What are the responsibilities and job description for the SCHOOL NURSE position at Wraparound Services of the Hudson Valley?
SCHOOL NURSE - follow school calendar - NO NIGHTS, WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS!!!
Immediate opening - 6 week summer program beginning July 6th - then 2026/2027 school year beginning in September
QUALIFICATIONS:
- RN License, NYS Certification.
- One year nursing experience with the developmentally disabled preferred.
- Possession of a valid NYS driver’s license.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor the health needs of the students/consumers in the Education and Day Hab programs.
- Administer PPDs to staff and individuals as requested.
- Accompany students/consumers to hospitals for emergency medical treatment. Assist Day Hab individuals in arranging any necessary medical appointments. Ensure proper medical follow-up.
- Provide care for minor illnesses, emergencies, or injuries of students/individuals receiving services.
- Administer medications, and supervise and train staff in the proper techniques of handling medications.
- Appropriately track and document disbursement, use and disposal of medications according to Agency policies and regulations. Track medications used to ensure their availability in a timely manner.
- Keep all medical and nursing records current, including daily, monthly and quarterly reporting, as required.
- Develop procedures on maintaining records for all required documentation.
- Participate in the planning of individual medical programs for each student/consumer as needed. Maintain nursing care and health care plans as required.
- Provide training for students/individuals in the habits of personal hygiene, family life, sex education, and other areas as needed.
- Control of communicable diseases and infections by identification and assessment, implementation of appropriate protective and preventative measures, and required reporting.
- Develop and provide in-service training to staff members which will include, but not be limited to: first aid, administration of medication techniques, detection of signs of illness, basic health skill needs, safety and sanitation, and self-care. Provide staff training in Infection Control and Bloodborne Pathogens (and other topics as directed) for: network orientation, annual staff training, department meetings and other meetings as required.
- Check student/individual equipment and medical supplies for necessary repairs, availability and cleanliness.
- Ensure that First Aid kit in the Nurse’s Office is available and adequately stocked at all times.
- Implement and ensure adherence to all Agency and Education/Day Hab Program policies and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable local, state and federal health care regulations pertaining to the Education and Day Hab programs.
- Serve as liaison to ensure coordination with service providers, e.g. pharmacy, dietetic consultant, orthopedist, neurologists, physicians, etc.
- Responsible for the safety of the staff and students/persons served.
- Perform any other related duties as directed by the Coordinator of Medical Services or designee.
Salary : $70,000
