JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Accounting Clerk
Status: 12-month Classified
Reports to: Business Manager
Salary: Classified Salary Schedule, Column D
Desirable Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in accounting or business preferred
- Minimum of two years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial experience
- Proficient in the use of computer applications; position requires use of MS Office Suite
(including Excel), Google Suite, Tyler Technologies, PowerSchool, and Red Rover
- Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal
supervision
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and a willingness to expand skills and take
on increasing responsibility over time
Performance Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities: The Accounting Clerk supports the Business Manager in maintaining the
financial records and accounting functions of the district, including but not limited to accounts payable,
purchasing, accounts receivable, and other fiscal operations.

WRANGELL PUBLIC SCHOOLS ACCOUNTING CLERK
Essential Functions
- Process accounts payable transactions: match invoices to approved purchase orders, enter into
the accounting system with accurate account codes and descriptions, prepare AP vouchers for
Superintendent approval, post approved vouchers, and process check and ACH payments in
accordance with district procedures
- Manage purchase orders including blanket POs: track outstanding invoices and encumbrances,
coordinate PO closures and rollovers at fiscal year-end, and assist with new fiscal year PO
setup
- Process and enter deposits into the accounting system using RevTrak, Square, and other
district-approved payment platforms; code revenue accurately and maintain organized backup
documentation; prepare and send invoices on behalf of the district and follow up on outstanding
receivable balances
- Reconcile PCard transactions monthly including verification against bank statement totals;
follow up with cardholders on incomplete transactions and prepare statement for upload
- Support month-end close activities including receipt attachment verification, cleared check
reconciliation, and liability account review; monitor bank transactions for returned items or
unusual activity
- Process annual 1099 reporting: verify vendor classifications, prepare and submit required forms
by IRS deadlines, and maintain current W-9 records for all applicable vendors
- Support the annual audit process by gathering documentation, running standard reports, and
responding to auditor inquiries within scope of role
- Run and distribute Student Activity account reports; respond to balance inquiries and assist in
ensuring transactions are accurately recorded
- Assist the Business Manager with payroll functions as needed; develop a working
understanding of basic payroll processing procedures to provide backup support and respond to
routine employee inquiries
- Train and assist district staff on AP procedures, purchasing processes, and PCard
requirements; ensure PCard Agreements are signed and on file
- Create requisitions, purchase orders, and travel requests; file financial documents electronically
- Maintain and actively develop proficiency in Tyler Technologies and other district software;
pursue relevant professional development opportunities — including Tyler University, ALASBO,
and other available resources — to deepen knowledge, improve efficiency, and grow
professionally in the role
- Provide cross-training coverage for the District Administrative Assistant during absences
- Answer phones, screen calls, sort and distribute mail, take and deliver accurate messages, and
take safety precautions; promptly submit accurate accident reports
- Maintain strong internal controls in all financial processes; handle sensitive financial information,
vendor data, and personnel-related records with the highest level of confidentiality and
professionalism.
