WQED
Pittsburgh, PA Full Time

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Producer, Voice of the Arts position at WQED?

About The Role

WQED Multimedia seeks a full-time Executive Producer to expand and elevate our Voice of the Arts franchise. This senior creative leader will guide WQED’s arts and culture storytelling across radio, podcasts, video, social media, and television—amplifying the diverse voices, performances, and creative energy that define southwestern Pennsylvania.

Reporting to the Vice President of Programming & Distribution, the Executive Producer will shape and execute a cross-platform strategy that strengthens WQED’s position as the region’s premier arts storyteller. The ideal candidate combines creative vision with editorial rigor, production experience, and a collaborative leadership style that inspires teams and partners alike.

Submissions without a portfolio or work samples will not be reviewed. Please include links that showcase your creative or editorial leadership, and a cover letter that briefly outlines your vision for arts and culture content that would inspire and engage communities across our region.

This hybrid role requires a collaborative, in-person presence at least three days per week at WQED’s studios in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead WQED’s arts and culture storytelling across all platforms, ensuring consistent creative quality and community relevance.
  • Develop and execute a unified content strategy that grows audiences and expands WQED’s impact.
  • Manage the creation of original programming from concept development through production, distribution, and promotion.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with artists, cultural institutions, and community leaders to amplify diverse voices.
  • Identify opportunities for new series, formats, and emerging talent.
  • Drive audience growth and engagement through YouTube, podcast platforms, and social media.
  • Produce select live events and performances that extend WQED’s arts storytelling beyond the studio.
  • Mentor and guide creative staff, fostering innovation and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of senior-level experience in audio, video, or multi-platform content creation OR equivalent arts leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in storytelling and editorial judgment across formats.
  • Proven success managing creative teams and complex production workflows.
  • Strong understanding of the regional arts ecosystem and demonstrated success in relationship-building and community engagement.
  • Experience producing for multiple platforms; familiarity with podcast or audio tools (e.g., Sequoia, Pro Tools) a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual compensation band for this full-time position is $75,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include a PPO health insurance plan; employer-paid dental, vision, disability, and life insurance; and after 12 months, a 5% employer contribution to a 403(b) retirement plan.

This role—and the Voice of the Arts program—are made possible through the generous support of the Allegheny Regional Asset District.
