We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Coder and Biller to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical diagnoses, procedures, and services using industry-standard systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD (International Classification of Diseases), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group). You will ensure that all medical records are correctly coded for billing purposes, facilitating seamless reimbursement processes. Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes, and DRG classifications based on documented diagnoses and procedures
- Ensure all coding aligns with current coding guidelines, medical terminology, and payer requirements
- Prepare accurate and complete medical bills utilizing electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Submit claims promptly to insurance companies and follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies
- Maintain thorough documentation of coding decisions, billing activities, and correspondence related to patient accounts
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or resolve discrepancies in medical records
- Stay updated on changes in coding regulations, insurance policies, and healthcare compliance standards
Experience
- Proven experience in medical coding and billing within a healthcare setting, with familiarity using EMR/EHR systems
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology necessary for accurate coding
- Experience working with ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as understanding DRG classifications for hospital billing
- Familiarity with medical records management and maintaining detailed documentation of coding activities
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and efficiently
- Prior experience in a medical office environment or healthcare facility is preferred
- Certification in Medical Coding (such as CPC or CCS) is highly desirable
