Nurse Practitioner (NP or PA) - Mobile Wound Care
Position Type: Part-time/PRN
Location: Mobile – Home Health (Local Travel Required)
Position Overview
Wound Care Specialists is seeking a skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide advanced mobile wound care services in patients’ homes, assisted living facilities, and other community-based settings in a Part-Time capacity. This position is ideal for an autonomous clinician who values high-quality, hands-on care and wants to focus on complex wound healing without the administrative burden of controlled substance prescribing.
The NP will manage patients independently while collaborating closely with physicians, home health agencies, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based wound care that improves outcomes and preserves limbs.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Perform comprehensive wound evaluations and ongoing assessments in home-based settings
2. Diagnose and manage acute, chronic, and complex wounds, including:
- Pressure injuries
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Venous stasis ulcers
- Arterial ulcers
- Surgical and traumatic wounds
3. Perform bedside procedures including:
- Sharp debridement (as credentialed)
- Incision and drainage
- Suturing (if applicable)
- Biopsy (if trained)
4. Develop and implement individualized wound treatment plans
5. Coordinate care with home health nurses, primary care providers, podiatrists, vascular specialists, and other consultants
6. Order and interpret non-controlled medications, labs, imaging, and vascular studies as clinically indicated
7. Provide patient and caregiver education on wound care, offloading, infection prevention, nutrition, and risk factor modification
8. Document thoroughly and accurately in the electronic medical record in accordance with Medicare and payer guidelines
9. Participate in quality improvement and outcomes tracking initiatives
**Scope of Practice Clarification: This position does NOT involve prescribing, ordering, or administering controlled substances. DEA registration is not required for this role.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (or Physician Assistant) license in your state of practice
- Current NP Board Certification
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred
- Minimum of a Master's Degree from an Accredited NP program
- Wound care experience strongly preferred (WCC or similar certification a plus)
- Ability to perform sharp debridement or willingness to complete procedural training
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to practice independently
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
