Position Summary
We are a private TK-8 school seeking a reliable Dish/Prep Cook for a morning/early afternoon shift 2-3 days a week. We feed 100 students daily and occasionally have evening events, when available.
The position supports daily food prep and kitchen operations with chopping, light cooking, dish washing, and kitchen cleanliness; to ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils; keep the dish station organized and running smoothly
- Wash, peel, chop, and prepare fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients according to instructions
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards (handwashing, proper food storage, allergen awareness)
- Help receive, unpack, and store food deliveries
- Support the cook with any other prep or kitchen tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Comfortable using kitchen tools (knives, cutting boards, cooking equipment) safely
- Able to follow instructions and work well as part of a small team
- Punctual, dependable, and able to stay on your feet for extended periods
- Food handler's certification (or willingness to obtain one) may be required
- Must pass a background check, as required for school employment
- Previous kitchen, food service, or dish washing experience preferred but not required
- Conversational English a plus
Details
Schedule: Part-time (2–3 days per week, Monday–Friday).
Hours: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
Calendar: Follows the local school calendar.
Availability: 1–2 evening shifts per month, as available
Salary: $21-25/hr depending on experience.
Benefits: Paid sick leave in accordance with California state law; meals provided during shift
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work near hot surfaces and kitchen equipment
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
