Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our team within the Indian Health Services (IHS) system. This role plays a critical part in supporting the delivery of culturally competent, patient-centered care to American Indian and Alaska Native populations. The CMA will assist with clinical duties including patient preparation, vital signs collection, EHR documentation, and basic procedures under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:

Greet and prepare patients for examination, ensuring comfort and privacy

Measure and record vital signs (e.g., temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration)

Document patient information accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)

Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures

Administer immunizations and medications as directed, in compliance with scope of practice

Perform specimen collection and prepare labs for processing

Provide culturally respectful health education and instructions to patients

Maintain examination rooms, stock supplies, and ensure infection control protocols

Support care coordination and follow-up, including scheduling and patient reminders

Uphold confidentiality and standards aligned with HIPAA and IHS regulations
Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant program

Current CMA certification (AAMA, AMT, or equivalent)

BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross)

Experience in a clinical setting, preferably within tribal, IHS, or underserved communities
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with American Indian/Alaska Native populations

Familiarity with RPMS or other IHS health information systems

Bilingual in English and a Native language (preferred, but not required)
