Tool Install Design Manager

WWPS is seeking a Tool Install Design Manager for a major semiconductor project in Peoria, Arizona. This role will lead and integrate design activities supporting semiconductor manufacturing equipment installation, tool hook up, and the interfaces between process tools and facility utility systems. The successful candidate will coordinate tool requirements, design deliverables, stakeholders, engineering teams, and construction partners to ensure tool install packages are safe, constructible, coordinated, and aligned with aggressive installation and manufacturing schedules. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to the project location.

Responsibilities

• Lead and integrate engineering and design activities for semiconductor tool installation and tool hook up scope, from early planning and design development through construction support, turnover, and startup.
• Coordinate tool specific design requirements and points of connection between manufacturing equipment and facility systems, including process mechanical, electrical, controls, exhaust, specialty and bulk gases, chemical distribution, UPW, drains, vacuum, and other process utilities as applicable to the tool set.
• Translate equipment vendor documentation, manufacturing requirements, facility constraints, and stakeholder inputs into coordinated design scope, deliverables, and installation packages.
• Manage design interfaces between tool install scope and base build infrastructure, including cleanroom, subfab, interstitial, utility, structural, architectural, and life safety requirements.
• Drive multidisciplinary design coordination across process, mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, controls, BIM/VDC, construction, equipment vendors, and trade partners to identify and resolve clashes, gaps, and scope boundaries before field installation.
• Manage design deliverables and design release priorities to support tool move in, setting, hook up, qualification, commissioning, and manufacturing milestone requirements.
• Proactively obtain technical information required from equipment suppliers, manufacturing customers, facilities teams, engineering organizations, and construction stakeholders. Track open design inputs and drive timely resolution of issues that could affect tool installation.
• Lead scope development and change management for evolving tool requirements, equipment revisions, utility demands, and manufacturing technology changes. Evaluate design impacts to cost, schedule, constructability, and installation sequencing.
• Review design packages for completeness, constructability, maintainability, access, code and safety considerations, and alignment with project standards and tool installation requirements.
• Support field engineering and construction teams by resolving RFIs, design conflicts, utility routing issues, point of connection discrepancies, and other technical issues affecting tool installation.
• Coordinate external A&E resources, specialty designers, consultants, and engineering partners responsible for tool install design deliverables. Support development of scopes of work and RFPs where required.
• Interface with client engineering and manufacturing organizations regarding design standards, equipment requirements, construction specifications, operations requirements, and tool specific design decisions.
• Perform and support conceptual engineering evaluations and option studies for tool layouts, utility routing, installation sequencing, and design alternatives, including high level cost and schedule impacts when required.
• Develop and implement safety by design practices throughout tool installation design, with particular attention to hazardous process utilities, equipment access, maintenance requirements, installation sequencing, and safe operations.

Requirements

• Proven track record managing engineering and design for complex equipment installation projects in high tech manufacturing environments. Semiconductor tool install experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor tool installation, tool hook up, and the interface between manufacturing equipment and facility utility systems.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design involving process piping, specialty gas, chemical systems, UPW, exhaust, electrical power, controls, mechanical systems, structural support, and related cleanroom or subfab infrastructure.
• Ability to lead large engineering and design teams through direct and matrix relationships and provide both strategic direction and day to day technical coordination.
• Ability to interpret and coordinate equipment vendor requirements, utility matrices, points of connection, layouts, design packages, and construction requirements.
• Strong ability to communicate technical design information, constraints, and solutions to manufacturing customers, Project Managers, Construction Managers, engineers, equipment vendors, contractors, and trade partners.
• Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders, drive technical decisions, resolve design conflicts, and maintain alignment in a fast paced project environment.
• Experience supporting design through construction, field installation, commissioning, turnover, or startup is preferred.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or commensurate technical experience preferred.
• 10 years of experience in engineering, design management, project engineering, tool install, equipment installation, or related project delivery roles.
• Five or more years of leadership or people management experience preferred.
• Direct semiconductor fab, cleanroom, subfab, tool install, or advanced manufacturing project experience is strongly preferred.
• Construction management or field engineering experience supporting equipment installation is a plus.
