Family Risk Specialist

Position Overview

The Family Risk Specialist serves as a trusted insurance advisor responsible for assessing personal risk exposures, evaluating insurance needs, and developing tailored protection strategies for individuals and families. The role combines consultative sales, risk analysis, and relationship management to help clients make informed decisions regarding the protection of their assets, liabilities, and financial well-being.

The specialist manages Standard and Middle Market personal lines opportunities with a target average annual agency revenue of approximately $750 per household account. Most opportunities originate from company-generated leads, while the specialist is expected to develop additional opportunities through networking, referrals, and relationship-building activities.

The role is not limited to quoting or writing a requested policy. The specialist conducts discovery conversations, identifies known and potential exposures, evaluates coverage alternatives, and exercises independent judgment in recommending comprehensive insurance solutions suited to each client's circumstances.

Primary Responsibilities

Client Discovery and Risk Assessment

  • Conduct comprehensive discovery conversations to understand each client's assets, lifestyle, financial considerations, liability exposures, and insurance needs.
  • Analyze client circumstances and risk profiles to identify coverage gaps, emerging exposures, and areas requiring additional protection.
  • Evaluate existing insurance arrangements and determine whether the current program appropriately addresses the client's overall risk profile.
  • Exercise independent judgment in interpreting client information and determining which risks and coverage alternatives require further evaluation.

Coverage Strategy and Client Advisory

  • Develop and recommend integrated insurance packages across home, auto, umbrella, and other applicable personal lines coverages.
  • Package appropriate coverage at the point of sale based on the client's identified exposures and broader protection needs, with a target package rate of 50%.
  • Explain material coverage options, limitations, tradeoffs, and potential gaps so clients can make informed decisions.
  • Recommend additional protection options when the analysis indicates that a single requested policy would not adequately address the client's overall risk.
  • Coordinate with carrier and underwriting partners to evaluate available solutions while retaining responsibility for the client-facing recommendation.

Relationship Management and Business Development

  • Build trusted, long-term client relationships through credible advice, responsive communication, and consistent follow-through.
  • Manage company-generated referrals and independently develop a portion of the sales pipeline through networking, referrals, and relationship-building activities.
  • Guide clients through the evaluation, proposal, selection, and implementation process.

Professional and Operational Accountability

  • Maintain clear documentation of discovery findings, risk considerations, recommendations, and client decisions.
  • Use approved agency, carrier, quoting, proposal, and client-management systems to support analysis and execution.
  • Manage assigned opportunities and priorities with limited day-to-day direction while escalating unusual or highly complex risks when appropriate.
  • Comply with agency standards, carrier requirements, licensing obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of personal lines insurance, consultative sales, risk advisory, financial services, or related client-facing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct discovery conversations, assess client needs, and explain coverage options.
  • Strong analytical, relationship-building, communication, and consultative selling skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage a mixed pipeline of company-generated and self-developed opportunities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make client-specific recommendations within established authority.
  • Active Property & Casualty license required.
