World Explorers is hiring both Lead Counselors and Assistant Counselors to join our team at multiple Brooklyn elementary school sites in 2026. We’re looking for enthusiastic, dependable individuals who enjoy fostering learning, creativity, and fun in a structured environment.

World Explorers is a Brooklyn-based organization providing afterschool and school break programs for students in Pre-K through 5th grade. Our mission is to create safe, engaging spaces where children can explore new skills, build confidence, and connect with peers. We proudly partner with public and charter schools across Brooklyn.
Available Roles Lead Counselor
Lead Counselors are responsible for supervising groups of students, guiding activities, and mentoring Assistant Counselors.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise groups of elementary students during daily afterschool activities.
- Facilitate games, arts & crafts, STEM projects, and team-building exercises.
- Support student safety during transitions, building movement, and dismissal routines.
- Assist with attendance tracking, family pick-up, and program operations.
- Promote positive behavior and maintain a structured, welcoming environment.
- Mentor and provide guidance to Assistant Counselors.
- Collaborate with site leaders, school staff, and peers.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in college or have a completed college degree.
- Experience leading groups of children in school, camp, or youth program settings.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to commit to the full school year and pass a background check.
- Preferred: CPR/First Aid certification, experience with DOE schools, interest in child development or education.
Compensation: $18–$21/hour
Assistant Counselor
Assistant Counselors support Lead Counselors and help create a fun, safe, and engaging environment for students.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with supervising students in daily afterschool activities.
- Help facilitate games, arts & crafts, and group projects.
- Support student safety during transitions and dismissal routines.
- Assist with attendance, program setup, and daily operations.
- Encourage positive behavior and foster an inclusive, structured environment.
- Collaborate with Lead Counselors, site staff, and peers.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with children in school, camp, or youth program settings.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability.
- Ability to commit to the full school year and pass a background check.
- Preferred: CPR/First Aid certification, interest in child development or education.
Compensation: $17/hour
Work Schedule
- Monday–Friday, approximately 2:00–6:00 PM (hours may vary slightly by site).
- Program follows the NYC DOE calendar
- Summer employment available
- Optional full-day or part-time hours during school breaks and holidays
- Break camps include field trips, enrichment workshops, and special guest programming.
- Occasional trainings or meetings outside of regular program hours.
