External and Corporate Relations Vice-Presidency (ECR)

The ECR Vice-Presidency's mandate is to strengthen the World Bank Group’s development impact by building political and financial support for the World Bank Group and its mission. ECR manages corporate communications, issues and risk management, global engagement with key stakeholders, including media, civil society, and international organizations, as well as employee engagement. ECR is responsible for the Group's corporate online and social media presence, and produces content for a wide variety of platforms, including print, broadcast, and web.

ECRPG

ECR’s Department for Partnerships & Practice Groups (ECRPG) provides strategic communication guidance to the World Bank Group’s Practice Groups, Global Practices, and Global Themes. The ECRPG team works to ensure that high impact strategic communication approaches, aligned to PG and corporate priorities, are deployed across the PG and GPs.

Duties and Accountabilities

As a member of the ECRPG’s Human Development Communications Team, the External Affairs Associate will play a strong editorial, technical and quality assurance role in the day-to-day operation of ECRHD’s external sites, and contribute to our overall communications strategy, especially as it relates to digital outreach. The Analyst must be team oriented, must enjoy working in a lively, fast-paced environment with short deadlines and changing priorities, and be able to work with a diverse set of communications colleagues, who are committed to international development.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the production of innovative online/offline campaigns such as multimedia series, social media campaigns and events that are tied to strategic initiatives and would be used for external audience engagement. This includes interactive data visualizations, slideshows, infographics, podcasts, videos, social media postcards, etc.
  • Help distill often complex concepts into digestible, persuasive stories and other content types to help bring clarity and insights to target audiences.
  • Provide the research, reporting, booking, and gathering of all editorial and technical requirements for projects.
  • Publish using content management systems in compliance with the Bank’s procedures and practices (i.e., Adobe AEM, Drupal, Adobe Campaign, and Hootsuite, among others).
  • Work with colleagues in ECR and across the Bank to ensure messaging and timing are in sync with the broader editorial calendar of the Group.
  • Monitor content being produced and promoted for the web, including social media, for risks and reputational issues, flagging potential issues proactively.
  • Assist the digital governance focal points to manage web production and workflow; this includes reviewing site requests and guiding teams on best use of digital channels.
  • Coordinate closely with the ECR corporate digital teams to ensure HD’s digital sites meet or exceed performance expectations.
  • Assist the blogs editor with coordination and the publishing process, including selection of images, production, and drafting social media material.
  • Monitor and report on KPIs for key sites (internal, external) using measurement tools (like Adobe Analytics, Talkwalker, Hootsuite) in an easy-to-understand format for a variety of stakeholders. Make recommendations to optimize digital content for our goals based on analytics data.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience as a web producer or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English; experience producing stories that convey impact and results. Experience in reporting, researching complex topics.
  • Excellent website production skills and extensive experience with using multiple Web Content
  • Management Systems such as Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Analytics, WBDocs, Adobe Campaign, Drupal, and social media platforms like Hootsuite and Talkwalker.
  • Expert in editing images using Photoshop. Ability to embed video and multimedia into web pages; experience in producing impactful infographics, daily social media assets.
  • Working knowledge and functional proficiency with online performance measurement and impact analysis tools sufficient to lead or advise others in analyzing usage and trends; ability to research, identify, and map intended audiences and stakeholders, and to leverage communication tools and methodologies.
  • High level of initiative, judgment, and decisiveness in accomplishing tasks; proven ability to work independently; good time-management skills and an eye for detail; ability to work effectively under stress and to juggle multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams. building and maintaining close relationships with networks and regional colleagues, ensuring localization and promotion of their content.
  • Interest in international development issues and an understanding of how communications can assist key audiences in meeting challenges.
  • Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; sensitivity to working in a multicultural environment.

  • Project Management - Understands the basic concepts of project management, as they relate to the execution of tasks within a project.
  • Communication in International Development - Understanding of international development issues and of the communication needs of key stakeholders, such as bilateral donors, the private sector, foundations, NGOs, and academic institutions.
  • Online Content Editing and Drafting - Ability to draft and edit simple online communications products and develop drafts of moderately complex online communications products with minimal supervision.
  • Online Communication Strategy, Planning, and Execution - Practical experience in a full range of online communications approaches, tools, and methodologies; can develop drafts of online communication plans and strategies.
  • Online Production Tools - Proficiency with graphic design principles, industry-standard applications, and web technologies; strong ability to encode, package, embed, and web-optimize digital multimedia assets.
  • Online Performance Measurement and Impact Analysis - Proficiency in online usage data, trends and analysis results; setting appropriate KPIs, developing gap analysis, producing reports, and making recommendations for action; can measure the effectiveness of existing online communications strategies or design new ones.
  • Client Orientation - Identifies and meets (internal or external) client/constituent needs, builds productive client/constituent relationships; delivers client-centric solutions; takes responsibility for ensuring client/constituent satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Drive for Results - Takes personal ownership and accountability to meet deadlines and achieve agreed upon results and has the personal organization to do so.
